Good on the land, be interesting to know a little bit about the academy structure and recruitment we seem to have some skill in identfying players at an early age - anyone with any insight?

I have a bit, what do you want to know exactly?

The intake of these lads mate at very young ages, we must have some community scouting team - when you think we have Norway on our doorstep identfying, agreeing to have these lads with us - continues to be an area we excell rather then that lot. I just wonderd why that was and what we do differently from a process point of view to excel? I like to think its strategy rather then dumb luck.

What Everton do that I'm not sure other clubs do is have a lot of scouts who are also coaches for local teams at U8s, 9s 10s say.

The club also builds 'partnerships' with local clubs which benefit both. For example, I know Everton put on coaching courses for the coaches at probably the biggest (numbers wise) junior club in Liverpool. They also get the teams a game at Finch Farm and subsidise tickets for Goodison etc. on the promise that if there's a really outstanding young player Everton will get first look at him/first pick. Again, don't know if many other clubs do that or not.

I think a good scouting network and youth system is born out of necessity as much as anything really for us due to finances. We a bit of luck in that sense - in our catchment area there's United, City and Liverpool who can spend £20m on a player like it's nothing therefore probably wouldn't even notice the youth system has disappeared, then a ton of small clubs. Everton are the right choice if kids want a chance at a big club, and I think a lot of parents know that.

Everton have also ran soccer schools for 100+ kids in every half term for at least 15 years. Doesn't sound like much but Liverpool have never done it on that scale, and I know of a few lads including me who got scouted from one of them.

Anyway, this is probably stuff you already know so the answer is: not sure.

Well with the quality of young players coming through, the current young players playing and add to that a couple of decent signings with the senior players we have there is the potential to build a real quality team/squad in the near future something akin to our team in the mid 80's under Howie!

I watched the game V Malta. Wow, the boy is brilliant.

You can tell he likes Gerrard, stands / walks like him.

This is why I hope we can keep Barry around for a couple of years, we would not need to spend massively in that area and have Lundstram and Ledson coming through who could really learn from him.
