Milner, Lennon and Huddlestone have all played Champions League, Morrison is an international and Taylor plays prem when fit and at least five others play in the championship from that lot, so not too bad. Some years have more exceptional players than others, I bet if you look at some of the Dutch teams that have one this you will find quite a few top players. As was pointed out earlier and as Roberto has stated, it's what happens next for them in terms of exposure to first team football that will be crucial, our lads will get the chance if they continue to work hard, the talent is their.

He did play in the 2002 championship (think only him and Routledge went on to have top flight careers).

He scored 5 goals in the tournament including a hat-trick against Spain.

Biggest key for me mate though is looking at how our lads do that have made this level, in that list the 2 we had have progressed through the england ranks - one to under 21's one all the way to the world cup squad, both been upgraded to the first team squad, one as a starter and the other looking set to feature in certain games next season

Thats the key, to the 2 young lads now as well, need to give them the development and support to make the grade

Would add Lundstram to the list of players on the edge - could make it or could fall short, but he has been a part of the international setups at junior level too, cant think of another besides Browning maybe who has as well, discounting stones as he didnt come through our academy and unlike the rs we wont try to claim he did (sterling for example)

Lundstram was in the England Under 20 WC squad last year, He might have got the nod for the Toulon Tournament but is involved in the League 1 play-offs with Orient. Of our other young lads Chris Long and Hallam Hope both have England youth caps, apparently Long is highly rated at the academy, by big Dunc in particular, he was also picked for the under 20's WC last summer whilst still eligible for the under 18's.

Edit:- forgot George Green, he's capped to u18 level as well.

He was Top scorer for our under 21's this year, had a loan spell at MK Dons but returned early due to injury, not sure if he's still injured. He should be involved in preseason and then hopefully get a better loan next season.

this kid ledson is the real deal, lundstram no where near good enough

Agree about Ledson, to early to right of Lundstram yet though, by the sounds of things he has a lot of ability but needs/needed to toughen up mentally, he was probably a year late going out on loan.

Think a bit of realism is needed.

Ledson was on the bench for Everton's first team vs Southampton and Man City this season just gone, aged 16.

Here is a list of the U17 England squad from 2010. Hardly a massive amount of top level players there.
3 DF Luke Garbutt 21 May 1993 (aged 16) 20 Everton
16 MF Ross Barkley 5 December 1993 (aged 16) 2 Everton

Well, Garbutt played for the Everton first team this season just gone, after being recalled from a successful loan spell, and Barkley has been great for us and is going to the World Cup with England.

Not really bothered about other team's youth players - ours seem to be doing very well indeed - the same age group of players are winning the national league title at their age group AND succeeding on the international stage.

The optimism is entirely justified.
