Transfer Rumour Salomon Rondon.

No competent DoF in the Premier League in their right mind would sanction a deal for a 32 year old who in his last transfer simply took the pay day in China.

It can't be any more obvious that this is a mercenary. How hasn't Brands learned his lesson by now? What next, throw £20m at Oscar on £200k a week just to really hammer home how useless he is?

This is clearly a Benitez request signing, but FFS he's the DoF, you just say no to it.

I'll be the first to admit that the Rondon at Newcastle was a useful player. Not a world beater but not abysmal. But that China move disqualifies him as far as I'm concerned; it's a dreadful transfer if it happens.

We can't pad out your squad with superstars and it's not like we haven't got 2/3 young players who can sit on the bench already, the manager wants a proven backup and as long as it's cheap that sounds sensible. I would have thought Benitez has vouched for the player's attitude to come in and do what we want.

If it is a done deal then on the evidence so far I've got to back Rafael, he will be back up and scored 1 in 3 in the Premier last time.

Don’t really see the point in this move unless he is very cheap and his wages are low. Given that he is coming from China I suspect he is on a good wage. Strikes me as your typical Everton signing, someone who won’t play but clogs up the wage bill.
I realised that we couldn’t keep spend millions on players every summer but I never thought we would be confined to the bargain bin.

How can someone not see the point in the signing. A proven adept premier league striker. Will be on a short term contract, cost very little and its just insurance if DCL gets injured. Benitez obviously considers him more reliable than Kean and Kean will be on high wages and still fetch a fair fee.

I can understand its a bit underwhelming but its a short term option while ffp is a challenge. I'm sure if and when a worthy long term target for that position becomes available we will cross that road when it comes to it. In our position we just can't splash out much for a backup striker at the moment as there are other positions that are more of a priority currently.

It’s either him or Tosun come November.

On a free with the experience he has and the way Benitez wants his forwards to lead the line and the service he wants putting in the box, not a bad signing.

It’s a bit like when United signed that forward who used to play for Watford who went off to China (can’t even remember his name).

no transfer fee so I guess it appeals to the club.

Ighalo.

Didn't pull up trees, but did what they wanted. Cover, experience and knocked in a few goals in cup competitions.

All depends on how much we are paying him and what he contributes before he's written off. I mean, Eto'o got everyone very excited, but was clearly an expensive pita behind the scenes.

Before anyone starts, no, I'm not comparing Rondon to Eto'o as a player.
