It's a grey day. It's a very grey day.

Despite the reports, I prayed that he was being used as a smokescreen. Prayed that we hadn't really sunk this low. Prayed that it was all some sort of sick joke. Surely we wouldn't?
Well now we have. I am not looking forward to the next 18 months .

The ONLY good to come out of this is that I expect nothing now, so every point we win will be a bonus.

We've got a manager who - for all his faults - an organise a side effectively.

He's not what we wanted. But ultimately the board have let it drift so long that we now need someone like him to come in.

It's mental that it's got to the point. But it has.

I wouldn't call it 'good'.

It's necessary, because the board let the situation go on for so long.

This (even if it was Sam) could have been done 4 weeks ago and we'd have been 4 weeks better off - because as I keep saying, that's how long it'll be until we start to see any real upturn in results imo.

Dyche. Tuchel. Silva (I know we went for him obviously) would have been good appointments. But they (well, the first two, definitely) could have been done over a month ago.

Instead the club let it drift and we got worse in that time, and people need to realise we now aren't worth the gamble to those managers.

Fingers cross Sam's record of never going down doesn't get Everton'd. This season, as depressing as it is, is now about making sure we stay up.

It's crap. It's abysmal. But it's what it is.
Why is there this constant thought that Tuchel or Dyche or anyone else didn't come here because the board were inept and didn't approach or throw enough cash at it. We are a failing club in a mess. Word will have spread across football and these people will know a lot more than we do about the situation. We know that Fonseca turned us down yesterday, we know Silva would have come given his language but does anyone really believe that if Tuchel or anyone else of his calibre would have said yes, we would be here now. I'm all for allotting blame, but the argument gets lost when we just make things up.

The lines after that aren't really appropriate anymore though.
Course they are mate.
Big Sam will teach Jonjo Kenny how to defend, for starters.
We've had 5 weeks of "be brave, work hard" etc but how about an identity? How about a way of playing? Some sort of tactics? Transitions?
As I said in another thread, if you don't commit to someone like Martinez and give him loads of cash to implement a passing game, you are left with the only option of becoming a direct team.
I didn't want that, I never have but the masses did. And now we've got the best at doing just that and we are up in arms.

At this moment in time, and after watching the last 2 capitulations, sam and his team are exactly what we need. This squad of overpaid pansies need a massive no nonsense kick up the ass as they are better than what they have been showing.
That game on Sunday saw players heads drop, not trying, and trying to get off the pitch and not be involved. If that’s the types of characters we have in the squad then they should not be considered for first team duties. Sam and his team will weed them out and not stand for any of the nonsense we have been putting up with.
Was he in my top ten of managers to get? Absolutely not.
After watching recently, I’m afraid he is probably what we need instead of some sexy foreigner cutting his teeth in this league.

I’ll accept sam and his team now, and if we stay in the league then he is worth his composting get rid of him so we can get a long term replacement in.
Weirdly, if he takes us down he’s probably best place to get us back up.

It is a essential that we stay in this league to realise our ambitions. This step is as close we can get to making that happen as we’re a disgrace right now.

I’ll be applauding him from the stands tonight. As I would any new everton manager.
That you Bill

Not sure what to think anymore. If Big Sam works his magic and helps us score more goals and also help us defend better and move up the table then I am all for it. Our lineups since the season began with both Koeman & Unsworth have me scratching my head as they have been to vanilla. I never thought I see the day Sammy Lee would be on our sideline. Oh Well back to reality.

Scene – Big Scam’s office in the bowels of Goodison Park. A scene of unrest is carrying out in the stadium above.

Big Fat Scam: We’re in lads, fill your boots!

Snakespear: Yessssssss bosssssssss. How do we sssssave them from relegation?

Big Fat Scam: Big lad up front, Get the defenders to understand what being in a line means and racyhoofing it up every chance we get. You know the usual.

Sammy Lee: I might be a rat faced kopite scoundrel who smells of wee, but did no one tell them that they aren’t in the relegation zone, and they’re in the same league as Palace, West Brom, Swansea, Stoke, Huddersfield and so on?

Big Fat Scam: You’re a funny guy Sammy. Keep that zipped. Take the bag of cash I give you each week and say nowt to the board or the tax man.

Sammy Lee: Righto gaffer.

Snakespear: But how will we sssstay here once they are ssssure they are ssssafe?

Big Fat Scam: That’s the joy Craigy baby. They sack us at the end of the season. Big pay off, and we’re off to the beach for a pint of sangria with our breakfast.

Sammy Lee: But what about long term gaffer?

Big Fat Scam: We get in some overpaid mercenaries, on big money contracts way past their sell by dates, so that in 2 seasons time, they have to call us back in to dig Simeone out of the gravy. Ummmm gravy.

Snakespear: Wasssssh, Rinssssse and Repeat Bosssssssss?

Big Fat Scam: You got it Craigy, by the way have you seen that Elstone? Phil Brown’s long lost brother right?

Guffaws from the thieves lair drown out the boos from the stadium above.

Scene 2 – The boardroom

Moshiri: Have we done the right thing Bill?

Bill: I don’t know. Walshy slap some more lotion on Suntan Bob before he burns under that lamp.

Because five weeks ago we weren't as bad as we are now.

We were a more attractive preposition.

The board threw money at Watford for Silva and it didn't work. Dyche has a buy-out clause and would have joined us. There's almost no doubt about it. Not in the last week or so with how bad we've become, but certainly 4/5 weeks ago when really it was a case of just instilling a bit of confidence back into the squad and finding a balance.

We dallied. I'm not making it up. I know that we did. We all know.

I'm all for positive and I defend the club a lot - but in this situation (and I reiterate, not the actual appointment of Sam) - allowing it to go this far, it's disgraceful.
