Did it say how many times he actually beat Ferguson and Wenger during his Bolton days and how many times he played against them?

No, not at all but I seem to remember that Bolton were in the top bracket for a time and got into Europe. Pretty amazing. This was ten years ago or whatever.

He is obviously a bloke who thrives on being the underdog and going after sides with rigid systems. Taking over a huge club like ourselves was never going to work.

I just read the book loick!
Mike Walker THE Mike Walker got a team into Europe and managed the 1st English team to beat Bayern at home,George Burley finished in 5th place once

He didnt win tho, hes never won a thing as a manager, sorry, a League of Ireland league title and a 3rd division title, other than that a few play offs, so he didnt get around the giants and win, he competed with the "giants" and at times gave them a bloody nose, but so has Alan Pardew, so has David Moyes, Tony Pulis and a long, long list of Premier League managers that have never won more than a booby prize.

Its not JUST his style I object to, we need a winner to take us forward, it didnt work out, but Koeman was a winner, 9 major trophies.

Sam isnt a winner, Sam Allardyce has been a manager for 27 years, in that time hes managed to get a club to a final once where he was "outfoxed" by Steve freaking Mclaren in a League Cup final, he has yet to make it past the QF stage in the FA cup.

In short, this ISNT the man that will take us ANY further than 7th or 8th.

IS Marco Silva? Is Paulo Fonseca? Who knows, probably not, but I would rather take a chance on the unknown than watch the known unfold.
Exactly this. With Allardyce you get what it says on the tin. Ingredients that are bland and bad for your health. If that is the mandate the board are going for, then he will be back next season, regardless of what our appetite demands.

I've just finished a book called The Mixer by Michael Cox which is about tactics in football.

A good part of it is devoted to Sam Allardyce, focussing on his Bolton side and how he was able to outwit the systems of the likes of Fergie and Wenger and beat them. His signings of Campo, Djorkaeff and Kevin Davies were cited as masterstrokes.

It is compelling and quite persuasive. A man with no huge money behind him was able to get around the giants and win.

So what happened?

He got left behind and became a caricature called in to save crap teams from relegation.

Testify!!!

He's been awful with us, I admit. We have no discernible "tactics" at all save trusting to luck to be honest.

And yet we are in eighth place in the league.

How can a club sack a manager who has achieved that, at least?

The truth is that all the truly successful clubs , not just in this country but round the world, would do just that without hesitation. They wouldn't consider a mid table finish achieved with dire football worthy of anything but dismissal. That ability to be ruthless in pursuit of excellence is vital to their success.
What the successful clubs wouldn't do is to continue with a mediocre manager because the media and other outsiders think he 'deserves a chance'.

I agree. I just can't see the board sacking him.

They can't risk sacking him unless they have a top manager to come in, but no top manager will come, so it will either be like for like, which is pointless or some crazy risk, which would be stupid.

It's hard to understand. A big city club, big money, new stadium in the offing..........they should be queuing up FFS.

I see today that Everton have agreed to let on loan new winger Henry onykuru stay for one more year at that Belgium club. Classic big sam, who has no interest in bringing in attacking players and even those we have he counts down the minutes before he can sub them off for centerbacks.

So our only choice is Big Sam?! Pull the other one you have fallen for his narrative. Most seasons our points tally would not be 8th it's a false position. We could easily struggle again next season with him in charge.

Jesus, we don’t need some big time manager with a strong D of F. They are merely a head coach. They just need to be tactically sound and be able to manage players.

Any average manager could’ve gotten 8th. We were 2 out of 9th when he took over. He spent 50M in January and millions in salary. He had a more healthy side. No Europe.
