Indeed.

My view is that Sam did not set up to play so negatively yesterday......playing both Oumar and DCL suggests more attacking intent than we saw.

But that plan was scuppered because although he played very well between the sticks yesterday and his competence in dealing with everything that came into the box had a very calming effect on me sitting in the house so it must have also done so for the defenders in front of him, Pickford’s ball distribution was dreadful.

I think the idea was for him to start the attacks by getting the ball quickly up the field to our two strikers but every time he hoofed it forward it either went straight into touch or found one of our men in an impossible position.

He kept putting them back in possession particularly during that first half hence the relentlessness of their attacks.
I agreed with Allardyce putting two up front as I thought our best chance of getting something out of the game was harassing their defenders into mistakes. But it didn't work out as to accommodate it meant playing the likes of Rooney out of position. We didn't have enough of the ball to get decent service to the front two, which sort of defeated the object of the exercise. But at least it showed the intent was there. It wasn't working so he changed it.

No unexpected losses with Big Sam in charge. I'm coming round to the guy.

Defensively we look more resilient. Even after conceding, we kept at it. Can you imagine that a month or so ago? If he can keep this defensive strength up and expand our attacking play, then I for one will be happy. I would never have chosen him as Everton manager, but now he's here then I'm behind him. I wonder if we have found a manager who will just click. I just get a feeling that Sam might get rid of the loser mentality in the players, and if he can do that, then the sky's the limit.

Not getting carried away after a lucky draw at Anfield mind you.

I think Sam should be given a large contract. If he can organize a defence is such a short time, he can take Everton places. Hope he is there for a long time now, could be his last job.

Reckon he has inherited himself the best squad of his club career. Obviously we are exposed on left defence. And we could do with a big wryly target man. The first team is now functioning as unit.

We have Niasse and Ramirez...
DCL too, but none of them have genuine pace. I just have a feeling that Allardyce's default game will be to play on the break, and wouldn't be surprised if the Walcott shouts have an element of truth to them.

If you guys think the formation says anything about our style of play, then at best it would tell us we were trying to play on the break and counter.

Just take a look at our shape when defending, it's 9 men behind the ball and then outballs to Niasse and DCL that struggled to hold them up.

I think tactically, it was spot on, and somehow we got a proper defensive shape there. Holgate and Kenny were great, Williams a bit less cack and Martina even put in a decent shift, despite a few errors.

Big credit to Sam for the agricultural footie and all. Horrible to watch, but at least it's a result, like. And i'll take that any day over winning the passing stats in a phenomenal fashion, but ok.

Not quite Sam but akin to him. Good interview on youtube Everton FC at Finch farm with Sammy and Craig, both came across positively about joining Sam at Everton.
