With him, Hope and McAleney we have three young strikers now, all of whom have had a bit of senior football in recent years in the lower leagues, and all of whom are at an age where they should be thinking about making an impression around the first team.

I wonder if we'll see Martinez use them a bit this year?

you forgot chris long too who is ahead of hope.

I had in my head that he was more of a #10 than a #9? There are certainly some youngsters around the first team though. It will be interesting to see how Martinez uses them.

hes probably more similar to mcaleny. on his profile on the official site he compares himself to owen though that is a few years old now.

I think a couple of them may go out on loan

I'm of the opinion that the midfielders and the defenders in the youth set up are marginally ahead of the strikers in terms of readiness so I think they are probably more likely to play than the strikers

That being said, my opinion doesn't really get taken into account when it comes to squad selection so you can take my views with a pinch of salt ;)

Aye, I think you're probably right, but our need is probably greater up front. It's hard to see where Garbutt or Browning (for instance) might get a game this season, as they both have some experienced players ahead of them, even in terms of the first reserve position. If we do eventually get Besic then the same applies in midfield for Lundstram/Ledson too.

Maybe the first half of the year will see a number of young lads go out on loan and see how they perform in first team action before bringing them back to provide reinforcement over Christmas etc.

I think what was telling was that when Kone, Traore and Lukaku were all out last season, Martinez went for Naismith over McAlney or Long.

If there were a glut of injuries you could probably stick Garbutt or Lundstram in and they'd be fine. With the strikers I don't know if that's the case. They need game time though, without doubt, so loans could be on the table
