people saying how can you be giving an 18yr old a hard time, should read some of the guff being written about Luke Shaw, he's only 18 not his fault he's been bought for ridiculous money.

Anyway if this kid has joined i hope he does well, I always want the youngsters to do well as it can be uncompromising sometimes at that age getting a top flight contract.

I've no idea about his contract situation bud, I'd not heard of him until today. My point is being released by Man United doesn't mean he's no good, especially at a time when they are between managers. The decision has obviously been made by Nicky Butt or one of the other youth/academy coaches. You could argue that the guys in the equivalent departments at Everton have better expertise in this area than those at United at the moment, at worse he will replace Vellios in the 21's squad and allow Hope and Long to get out on loan again.

Very surprised you have not heard about Podga's contract situation - Man Utd lost out on a lot of money - it was in all the sport papers. Only time will tell if Sam is any good (lets hope he is).

I was talking about Byrne's contract situation:)

Anyone know how many of his appearences for Carlisle were starts and subs, and if subs how many minutes did he get as a sub

Watched Sam last month for Ireland 19s, top class. Needs a bit of time though. Most of his Carlisle appearances were as sub but Graham Kavanagh described him as the best young Irish player in years.

Nah, I'm not having that, no way can he live up to the standards Paul McShane has set.
