Imagine having one of the worlds best strikers ( or formally ) and still at a decent enough age to do something, and then playing him on the wing or in attacking midfield.

KOFF martinez.

I like eto'o....but are we better off playing just Barkley & Naismith out of position, than playing Barkley, Naismith & eto'o out of position?!......

Will be sad if he goes as think he's useful, especially for the Europa league and love having such a successful player to give advice to our younger players.

But if he does go in January presumably we will get some fee and in his few months he'll have been a decent cover for Lukaku whilst we waited for Kone to get back to fitness. To date he's been a better signing on a free (4 goals, 2 assists all competitions) than a 20m spent on Balotelli and Lambert (combined 4 goals 0 assists all comps).

However, if he leaves and Lukaku gets injured we are depending on Kone as our only striker to rescue our season? #hellno

Naismith and mirallis can both play as a striker. Not ideal, especially alone up top, but let's not pretend that we wouldnt have options.

But let me be clear, I prefer eto'o in an everton shirt. He is class, is professional, has lots of experience in the barca system and can serve as a great mentor and player/coach. However, if he is looking for a starting role, not a squad role, then a move may be healthy for all involved.

Lukaku
Eto'o
Kone
Mirallis
Naismith

And all are currently healthy. We have 5 proven goal scorers as forwards in their career. I trust martinez to sort it.

I said in my original post I would prefer to keep him but if he wants out to get more regular playing time/money there is little we can do - an unhappy player is bad news to have around especially one as influential as Eto'o.

As @chriswho points out we do at least have some options there, if Eto'o brought in some money we could use that on a winger or goalkeeper where we have far less depth currently.

Can't blame him. Would you be happy as one of the greatest strikers of the past 10-15 years, to be playing on the wing or in midfield? And barely seeing any game time.
