Anyone with a better idea than me can summarise this? Wtf is going on?
We signed Eto'o to a one year contract. It contained a clause that it would automatically switch to a two year deal if he made 15 appearances or starts - noone seems clear on which it is.

If it is starts he still only has a six months on a one year deal to serve so iS legally free to talk to other teams. If it is appearances the two year deal was triggered at City making his current talks illegal - but we seem to have had a gentlemans agreement that he could talk to Italian teams and move there for free as his family live in Milan.

Sampadoria have offered him a deal for two and half years, likely on less money. But they have a better league position than we do, his family would be driving distance and he will play more as they have just sold their main striker.

We are trying to persuade him to stay.

The rumours of a fall out are apparently false - he wants to go back to his family. That's fair enough, some info sent our way would've been nice though.

Sampdoria continues to negotiate to acquire Samuel Eto'o. The former Inter striker is willing to take a pay cut compared to what he earns at Everton, 3 million euro per season net of taxes plus bonuses, but is still negotiating with Sampdoria on the length of the contract: the Italian club is offering a year and a half contract with option for next season tied to matches played, while Eto'o wants all the years guaranteed. There are still details to be addressed but the deal could be completed on Saturday.

Would that put him on a out

We should flatly refuse to let him go until the summer. If he's professional enough which I'm sure he is, he will understand why it's a necessity to stay. To me, it's absolutely ridiculous we are currently letting him try and find a new club. I'm assuming whilst he's left out of the squad and unavailable for us to pick he's still picking up a wedge?

I am glad they don't appear to be true, hate it when there is backroom strife.

But from the Echo peice it doesn't look quite as clear cut as just wanting to go back to his family - he seems to want regular game time as well and he has an offer on the table that will give him both.

On paper at the moment maybe.

A team with Mirallas, Stones, Lukaku, Baines, Coleman etc. is never going down.

A team with Mirallas, Stones, Lukaku, Baines, Coleman etc.will never be just 3 points above the relegation zone in mid Jan.

Bet you'd have said that back in August.

You're more than likely right, we shouldn't go down with the team we have. But we shouldn't have 1 win since November with the team we have.

Not sure what you mean "would that put him on a out"?

Rumours were that his deal was structured heavily towards good goal bonuses but that he is still on around 50k basic that he will get paid regardless of playing time. Not itk, it is just gossip that could be wide of the mark.

Not a fan of keeping any unhappy player tbh, tend to cause more problems than they are ultimately worth and Eto'o has history of not being the quiet and retiring type if things don't suit him.

Ignore the first part mate, that was from something else I was going to reply to and then left it and it's stayed there lol I just think at his age he should show some professionalism and stick it out for another 4 months and then he can do what he likes. I think it's unprofessional that he's been allowed to whore himself around to Italian clubs whilst Martinez says he may/may not be gone and we will know in the next 2 weeks and we will do what's right for Everton. What's right for Everton is this

1. Your staying and you better put the effort in and you can sod off in the summer
2. You want to leave? Do one because we've terminated your contract.

All it looks like to me is his agents are taking the piss out if us a bit and we are letting them. Stay and fight for your place or do one one Samuel, not arsed what he had done previously it's the right now that matters and that's Everton football club.

What is right for us and right for him unfortunately look like two different things, think he is off tbh.

Never been much of a fan of keeping players if their heart isn't in it.

I can see where he'd still be useful though in Europe etc...

Tough one.

Like when your bird dumps you. You want her back but she doesn't want you. Is it really still the right thing to want someone who doesn't want you?

INABIT SAMMY ETS YOU SLUT

As long as he heard us call him a big fat ugly slag that will make me feel a bit better.

If he wants to go he can pay up the rest of his contract and walk away a free agent can't he?

A "Gentleman's agreement" for one of the richest players in world football? Sake Everton.

From the Independant
Samuel Eto’o is on the verge of a return to Italy, after Sampdoria agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal for the Everton striker today. Eto’o, who spent two years at Internazionale from 2009 to 2011, will travel to the Genoa club on Sunday for a medical on Monday and it is understood that his contract includes a clause allowing him to become a director after his stint as a player.

The former Cameroon international has scored three times in the Premier League since his arrival at Goodison Park last summer on a free transfer from Chelsea. His last goals came against Burnley on 26 October. Earlier in the week, Eto’o’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, said that his player had chosen Sampdoria – fifth in Serie A – over a more lucrative move to the Brazilian club Santos.
