Of course every signing is a risk and I thought he was a shrewd acquisition at the time but it was a disaster as we have seen.

Hindsight is a great thing.

You do have to question though the hours of watching players, scouting reports, and all the fandangle technology that is available these days, it just shows what limited value it can ultimately be.

Of course he was also signed at a time when it seems the club didn't know it's backside from its elbow, but you just can't legislate for it not happening again, it probably will at some point although hopefully not to the extent seen with Sandro. Certainly Brands cannot guarantee that his time here will be free from such massive disappointments.

I hang my head in shame knowing I put his name on the back of my lads shirt when we bought him. Thought he'd be a steal. Unfortunately he's absolute dog turd and I only wish I could erase my memory of his appalling ability.

Struggling to see how we are going to get rid of this guy considering his wages. Spain would have been the obvious destination but the smaller clubs there have such little cash they probably can’t afford him, and after toiling the way he has the more flush clubs probably won’t look twice at him.

It’s a hard sell at this stage, Marco might have to go all clockwork orange and pin his eyes open at finch farm, playing that miss on repeat until he comes out the other side as the lethal finisher we thought we bought!

Looking at the team we have now compared to what we had last season it immediately becomes apparent that Silva must have a PhD in turd polishing, but having now watched IjjySmith's post it appears that this lad is too far gone even for Silva.

We have a few players we will struggle to shift on as they won't want to give up the wages we are paying. They will run down their contracts before moving and taking a major salary drop. You pay for your mistakes and we are paying the wages of our mistakes.

Read one of those advanced stats types right after we bought him saying that the season he had right before we signed him was a mirage and that he would never repeat a streak of finishing like that. He may have been right. Hopefully he can find some form in Spain but he has no future here.

Can see why he was signed, scored a decent amount of goals the season before, young, and available at a knock down price and you would have thought he was a no risk signing as in he would be able to be sold back to La Liga if he flopped here. Loaning him out was a mistake in hindsight , he flopped there and now everyone knows he’s crap.

Shame really ,I wanted to really get this lad over the line when we were heavily linked with him,now we’ve seen him at Everton and on loan it’s looking like the worst £5m this club has spent (maybe kroldrup and Simon Davies )

..but the majority of people on here are not professional DoFs being paid a fortune to get such decisions right. His record suggests it’s more to do with him being very ordinary than lacking confidence. He’s a very fortunate young man.

It shows the importance of someone else who knows the game and knows football in that position of DoF.

Seen plenty of players have an absolute brilliant six months - the best teams dontbtebd to buy the ones that go on to show that it was an aberration.

Think jelavic, cisse, that Spanish lad who had a great first season at Swansea etc, notable that not one big club came after any of those based on that initial one season's form.

...yep, and I think if you scout somebody closely over a number of games, a truly top DoF will see the flaws that contributed to the ‘ordinary statistics’ outside the current spell of good form. Walsh was supposed to be a football man but his record with us suggests otherwise.

I linked it a couple of pages back, makes total sense when you read it doesn't it

Looking over washes career - he had one purple patch at Leicester for two seasons when he struck gold with 3-4 signings, outside of that though it's filled with a huge collection of tosh ones. Including his recruitment for Leicester last season he was there, for us in large part, and for Newcastle it was abysmal.

Brands has a proven record of signing quality over a number of years which importantly have fitted in with the systems at the clubs he's been at.
