I’m not having that we’ve just cancelled his contract whilst the window is still open.

Makes zero sense.

I could see a scenario were rather than paying a percentage of his wages in a loan move, that we agree a pay off and he signs a permanent deal with his new club though. But not just paying him off now, whilst there’s 2 weeks left and clubs will get increasingly desperate.

The club will only pay him off deal if it saves us money over the course of the season.

Instead of paying his full wages, agree to pay off whatever the difference is with his new contract for the remaining amount his current one has with us etc, would still cost us a fair chunk thiugh if his contract is £120k a week, no one will offer him anything near that
