Well hes the head scout, I assume other scouts submit reports and he goes and has a look see at the 1s that catch eyes.
We have a scouting network of around 250 scouts.

and you know we haven't? Seems to be that's possibly what we have done, but maybe he was awaiting atletico's transfer ban decision. We and them will be offering him the same backup option, whereas they'll be able to offer backup in the CL, and ours will be europa. Money won't buy everyone.

We will never know who actually finds these people.
I have a mate who scouts for Everton. He also scouts for Celtic and a number of German clubs. The way the scouting set up works currently is that a network of scouts submit reports on players, and when a player is highly recommended by a scout, multiple opinions are garnered on that player. That's the first stage Walsh gets involved in. That's also the point I occasionally hear of our interest, when we're sending multiple people to look at one player. It doesn't mean a bid is forthcoming, it just means the player has sparked our interest.
However it's not all smooth sailing. For instance a number of extremely positive scouting reports have been sent from South America, but we haven't followed up on them yet. Don't know why, but there's a belief that, despite what he's said publicly, Walsh thinks they're rarely worth the effort and expense involved due to 3rd party ownership, the culture shock, language barrier etc. Only interested if they speak Inglese and have an EU passport.

i know nothing mate, like everyone else. It's all guess work. You might be right, we may have triggered the release clause already and it's been on hold until Atleti's verdict was in. Maybe now we'll see some movement. My guess is we haven't as yet seeing as no normally reliable media has reported anything other than rumour.
