My mate is originally from Glasgow and has settled in Liverpool. Up until he got married, he was Celtic season ticket holder and went to most of their home games, he`s been going to the Everton games, off and on, with me for the best part of twenty years now.

His brother, who has settled in Newcastle, goes to watch Celtic and Newcastle.
My Dad's sister married a Scot who moved down here (in 1962.) He too had been a Celtic Season Ticket holder until then.
He loved his football, but obviously travelling back to Scotland every week wasn't really an option in those days.
He would go to a football match every single Saturday on his motorbike and in that first year, depending on who was at home, he would go to watch any of the Lancashire clubs.
By1963 he had become an Everton fanatic and a season ticket holder. He was the one that took me to my first ever game and he remained a season ticket holder and fanatical blue nose until his death in 1977 ;)

Thanks for the welcome, Kevin. Much appreciated.
Maybe 'support' was the wrong word. But most football fans I know have a team they feel some sort of affinity for in other leagues. They may be subjective, but that's the only evidence I can draw upon. Considering the amount of tv coverage that the EPL gets, it's no wonder people from other countries have an interest. It may even just be the case that it adds an extra interest to a foreign league if you have a connection of sorts.
It's not just the EPL. I have mates that have an affinity for clubs such as Fiorentina, Barcelona,Bayern Munich, Hamburg, Linfield (Northern Ireland), Marshall etc etc.
That last team should be Marsielle (auto-correct on phone).

Back in the day, Celtic supporters used sing "Liverpool. You're the Scheidt of Merseyside" to the tune of Bread of Heaven.

I would say Man Utd were probably the most popular English team amongst the Celtic support, but Everton were well liked. Liverpool, not so much.

It was only after a benefit game for the victims of Hillsborough that relations thawed between the Celtic and Liverpool fans.

Thawed.

I'm surprised at that call mate.
