If Everton were asset stripped by another club the last thing I'd want to do is adopt it as a second team.

I dont think I'd be alone in that either, funnily enough.
Asset stripped? Whose assets have been stripped exactly? Are you still bitter about the Patterson transfer?

Not sure that's entirely true :coffee:
Apologies, just noticed you had highlighted the comment. I think it's fairly common, how many kids did you see running around with Barca/Madrid tops when young? In fact, look at the EPL, some of the big teams have fans coming in from all over the country and abroad. I see alerts of reasons for following different teams across social media. Just last week I was reading a guy from London who follows St Johnstone as his 2nd team because his Grandad was from Perth.

In my experience, although not uncommon for football fans to 'have a soft spot' for another team (or teams) they rarely get emotionally involved.
it is just not true at all that it's "fairly common" for adults to 'support' a second team to the extent of joining that teams forum.
I am not condemning that by the way, just pointing out that I think you were wrong when you said "Most folk have a team they follow in the leagues In different countries"

Perhaps it's more common that supporters of Scottish league teams (and other farmers' leagues) also have an interest in a Premier League team. :coffee:

Welcome. Post loads.

Think Everton could do with as much 'positive' support as it can get tbh.
Considering the total negativity the 'emotionally involved' ones generally give on here!!

Oh I totally agree with that.
I think that you sort of prove my point about having a 'second team' being more common amongst supporters of Scottish clubs though.
76 posts on GOT since 2016 and 75 of them are in the 'Scottish Football' thread. lol
Not a criticism BTW. Just an observation. I love to see supporters of other clubs on the forum. ;)

Yeah it undoubtedly is.
The richest most glamorous league in the world being just down the road does attract interest funnily enough so I suppose if you're not part of it you'll probably attach yourself to one of the teams in it at some point.
And yes I am more of an observer in the other threads on GOT.

Thanks for the welcome, Kevin. Much appreciated.
Maybe 'support' was the wrong word. But most football fans I know have a team they feel some sort of affinity for in other leagues. They may be subjective, but that's the only evidence I can draw upon. Considering the amount of tv coverage that the EPL gets, it's no wonder people from other countries have an interest. It may even just be the case that it adds an extra interest to a foreign league if you have a connection of sorts.
It's not just the EPL. I have mates that have an affinity for clubs such as Fiorentina, Barcelona,Bayern Munich, Hamburg, Linfield (Northern Ireland), Marshall etc etc.

My mate is originally from Glasgow and has settled in Liverpool. Up until he got married, he was Celtic season ticket holder and went to most of their home games, he`s been going to the Everton games, off and on, with me for the best part of twenty years now.

His brother, who has settled in Newcastle, goes to watch Celtic and Newcastle.

I take your point. But I would suggest that the lack of comments on Sottish fitba doesn't entirely disprove my argument. I would imagine most people with a 2nd team would be more likely to post on the other team's forums, just as I'm doing just now. I don't think you'll find too much in the way of discussion of Everton on the Rangers forums, outside of the recent NP transfer.
