2018/19 Seamus Coleman

Not his fault that 1. he is picked each week and more importantly 2. he got a horrific injury on international duty.

That said, his weaknesses are there for all to see. We love him and he's genuinely been one of our best players of the past 10-15 years, but maybe his time has come.

I love Seamus and he’s been one of my favourite players over the past decade, but that right side is a weakness and he is a big part of that. Sometimes you have to say it how it is.
Honest and objective discussions are not allowed here though: you've either got to call him a great (because he's been so good) or you're labelled a heretic.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Brands is already looking at a long-term replacement for Seamus as I do think he's now on the decline, like Baines was for so long.

That's not calling for him to be axed from the XI, sold and labelled 'crap' or whatever people spout, but I do think we should be looking at a replacement...

... sooner, rather than later. Perhaps some competition may actually help him rekindle some form.

Well the blue tinted glasses is the absolute downfall of this club and fanbase in general. He’s been a great player but everything is pointing to him being one of the weak links in this current side.

I’m not saying he’s finished by any stretch but if we can get better than him then we should and I’m sure the club is looking for a long term replacement.

Was poor for the goal, Digne at fault to. But Coleman got back in position, but then couldn’t stop the cross, which should have been easy.

Annoyed me that. The lad stopped and then so does Coleman, allowing him to take a touch and put in a really dangerous pin point cross which Rondon thrives on.

If Seamus continued to close, even fouling the man, it would be less dangerous when the defence was scrambling back.

I think the world of Coleman, but he needs strong competition for his spot. That was a poor performance yesterday.

If Coleman is able to rekindle some of the form for which he is so loved by us as fans, then I'd be more than happy for him to retain his position in the starting XI.

Yet, I do feel that he needs competition and if that means bringing a player in then surely it would be better to look for an improvement, rather than a subordinate.

Honestlly, I do feel (like I mentioned earlier) that he's on a steady decline; people may talk of his horrific injuries etc. but they seem to have taken their toll.

Like I said before, I think that we should use the examples of Baines, arguably one of the best left-backs in Europe during his prime, and Jagielka as examples.

Imagine having a player of similar quality on the right as we now on the left with Digne, with the reliable Baines and Coleman offering competition on the bench.

That's the strength in depth that we need rather than relying on the likes of Kenny and Martina like we were last year - central defence is another great example.

Then, we can look at phasing out Baines within the near future for a better subordinate, while giving Coleman a few more years before we also look there.

Been here a while - plays when fit - regularly predicts two out of three coin tosses in training.

Personally, I’d prefer someone, anyone who gets in the ref’s ear. All top teams have players constantly refereeing the game.

Time is up for Coleman, if we want to progress.

Up there with my favourite ever Everton players, but sentiment is what gets us into still having players like Jagielka and Baines still around.
Jags has seen off Distin, Lescott, even kin Lucas Neill(!) - it's really crazy that he's still considered an option. Been a good but not great player for us, yet you can guarantee he's got a job at Everton for life in some capacity a la jobs for da lads.

He was constantly doing that last night and im always seeing him doing it, even when he wasnt Captain he was always giving Refs a hard time.

I get that hes not the same player he was, but hes a very good Right Back for me and im honestly baffled that people are so eager to punt him out the door and replace him with some Right Back from Palace that 95% of the forum has seen abar 5minutes of.
