2018/19 Seamus Coleman

Brilliant today. Led by example in stopping their attack.

Some will say he’s past it though.. lol
Salah vs Digne = Salah subbed off
Mane vs Coleman = A few chances

The difference is that Digne is a major attacking threat and so nullified Salah. Coleman going forward was very poor so Mane could push on...Coleman looked good defensively but a better right back wouldnt have had to be.

We really need to buy a new right back.

Not some.

Guess I missed the part of our tactic where they were man marking those players. Digne’s attacking hand minimal impact on Salah, it’s not like he was coming back and defending.

Man marking ? Lost me there...

If you watch Digne and compare with Coleman theres a vast difference to how they position themselves and also how the opposition play against them.

One looked very good defensively (like Hibbert)...the other was a shout for motm.

If its a case of keeping Coleman or signing a right sided player of equal or better ability to Digne then its a no brainer.

Pains me to say it but I still think he's a concern. Sorry.

I think people are well off the mark with yesterday's performance. He was absolutely brilliant defensively. Going forward not as great but when is a full back at Anfield? Even Man City didn't send theirs over the half way line earlier in the season.

To say you're concerned following that is very harsh.

Mane is just a far better player in this moment and Coleman shackled him well. Salah picks up goals but it's Mane who has been doing the all the work for him.

Salah is playing through the middle for them, it's Firmino that is supposed to be playing right side for them but more often than not they end up playing on top of each other - which probably explains why both are playing nowhere near they did last year.

Siggy was a massive help on our left hand side also at times and clearly had instructions to that effect, as had Walcott tbf.

Face it Zat, Coleman is 6 years past the point where you give any player credit, and all the full backs you've wanted to replace him and Baines with over the years have, to a man, proved to be pure garbo until Digne came along. Persisting with wrong ideas for years until a player's natural ageing process eventually makes you right doesn't make you less wrong.

Despite a couple of rash tackles in the box against Cardiff and Palace, he has been a big part of our very impressive defensive record as of late. If this lineup had been ready from the start, we might be looking at one of the top defenses in the league. Not too shabby.

Yeah that's harsh to judge Coleman on mane getting in a few times. Mane kept dropping deep and gana gave him a bit of freedom to do that in the hole. I've subjected myself to a full repeat of the game and gana looked petrified of mane, understandable really as hes in fine form. Hes what really makes them tick imo.

Coleman had a good game defensively, he was wasteful going forward though especially second half when he was in behind and had time to pick someone out. We need a bit of competition for him though, kenny isn't there yet.
