2018/19 Seamus Coleman

Coleman is taking the blame simply because he was the closest player to Doucoure when he scored. It suits the narrative of some to lay it all on him.
I think you need to look at the bigger picture, his pace used to get him out of trouble defensively and help him from an attacking point of view, where he was more about pace and determination, rather than composure and technical ability.

Unfortunately the pace has gone, and now he seems unable to attack an opposing defender, more often than not he stops and goes side ways.

And I’ve never thought he was a great defender. And has given a penalty away or two and the Newcastle goal was poor, letting Murphy get the cross in when it looked like he was in a good position.

He need replacing ASAP imo.

Watching the incident, Seamuscwas out jumped but he was waiting for Pickford to come off his line and deal with the situation, in fact after the goal you could see him asking the 'keeper why he didn't come and deal with it.

Not sticking up for Seamus as he hasn't been playing well but I, for one don't blame him for that goal or the first one, he just couldn't get out of the way for that unfortunate own goal, but I don't think a rest would do him any harm at the moment.

no it hasn't, he has been absolutely shocking this season

I bet you every single club in world football has a scapegoat it's just what fans do, there is ALWAYS someone who doesn't perform well enough for a team, even city probably have one

no one is really slagging him off etc they're just saying he hasn't been good and needs dropping ( which is true )
He hasn’t hit his normal standard but to describe as being shocking all season is a bit dramatic.

Competition and some rotation would be good for him indeed, same as with any other player.

I think Brands will already be thinking of replacing him given his age but I don’t think it will be as imminent as you think.

Noticed him and Pickford a fair few times lately having not exactly nice words with each other during a match

Not really a big fan of constantly playing out from the back.I think it's ridiculous for the goalkeeper to make a short pass to the full back, as 99% of the time it ends up back with the goalkeeper anyway who then punts it upfield. Just smash it up and concentrate on the 2nd ball, at least the ball is nowhere near our goal if we lose possession. Koff with trying to be all fancy and Barcelona-like.

The point of going short to the full back is to draw the midfield and forwards out so that when the keeper goes long we have more space to play in with the knockdown. It's very rarely to try and actually play our way forward from the back (Barca did it regularly because they were THAT good.)

I love Seamus but we need to face facts. A combination of age and that awful injury has resulted in him being not quite the player he was. Top class players can play longer as they have technique, skill and vision to compensate when they lose a yard of pace. Seamus doesn't have that so his only real quality is now diminished.

I am not having a go at Seamus for the sake of it here but the sad reality is that he is not a top six right back.

Loads on here said at the back end of last season, baines just need competition. And a few were also saying him and jags are good for another season. Now you never here jags and Baines mentioned, let’s not make the same mistake with Coleman.

He won’t be starting next season imo.

I would like new RB in during the window as it gives him time to settle. I also think we need a new centre back as Zouma won't be coming in permanently so I would then want a left footer and an upgrade on Keane so if 3 of the back 4 already working together it will be easier for the new player. Also if we bring him in now he will learn off Coleman what it's a out being an Everton player.

Regards to the 2nd Watford goal, I still can't see why Pickford isn't coming for that ball either.

It's a wide cross into the middle so he could see it all the way.

Granted Coleman has his back to play but he doesn't jump or know someone is running which makes it look like it's his fault.

Yes he should be off his line, one of my pet hates a goalie rooted to his line when the ball is in the 6 yard box. Something Howard used to do a regular basis.

Hopefully Pickford just lost concentration like a few did with the free kick. And maybe was ball watching and thinking the cross was getting cut out. Still young enough to iron out a few faults.

Gana was also at fault, as he was goal side of doucoure and just let him run of the back of him as he ball watched, so much fir being the best defensive midfielder in the league.

I'd give Jonjoe Kenny another go there, I think he has earned the right, some might agree he's a better crosser of th ball
than Seamus and not too bad defending, how many senior games has he played, still learning but improving as he goes
along,no airs and graces, got his feet on the ground exactly like Seamus, I think he deserves the chance to prove his credentials.

Unfortunately he has all the hallmarks of a Hibbert Mk 2, but who can cross a ball.

Can`t see him making it as anything other than a bit part player.

Silva dropped him the moment Coleman could walk again, which says a lot.
