2020/21 Seamus Coleman

It's a smart move on the club giving him a new contract but as a back up. I remember a few years ago when Jags was captain and everyone wanted Seamus as Captain because he was passionate, now as usual the captain hindsight brigade are saying he's not a good captain because he isn't Roy Keane but then we like to turn on players who have been good servants of the club when they start to decline.

You need good honest pros around the club, people who get the club, which Seamus does, he has to give those daft rallying calls but it's not his job to get the players motivated, if the managers can't do it, what chance has a player with an armband?

I mean, I get why he got a new contract
But how is it well deserved? He's been a major problem in our side for years, and he's not even a good captain let's be honest
He sounds pretty good behind the scenes to be fair to him.

Needs replacing on the pitch nevertheless.

Rallying cry no. 1 of 2021/2022

Love Coleman but am absolutely sick to death of these soundbites. Constantly the same, even he must feel stupid saying it now - am sure he said in one recently "am sure the fans are bored of hearing me say it".

We are.

Just get the freeloaders to produce, that's it.

"We know, as players, we need to be achieving a lot higher position than that.” - seen this far too many times...

Tbf to Colemen even he knows the fans are sick of hearing it and has said as much on more than one occasion.
Don’t think he can win though really, say nothing and he’ll be called coward, hiding etc, say performances aren’t good enough / time to win something and it’s an empty sound bite.
Regardless of his capability on field now, like you say, behind the scene he does seem well respected and a few signing have said how good he’s been with them.

Yep, I would just like him to actually push a little bit more, Coleman is a bit of a nice nice captain, Gomes on the floor with a shattered leg and he ran to hug Son etc etc.

He, I have no doubt, is a good patron of the club and is great at welcoming new players, he's been around long enough, I just wish he put the fire up a few players backsides a bit more, most of the freeloaders get a smooth ride for doing nothing.

You would hope going forward we're never in the situation again where we have a players who has 13 years with us and doesn't win a thing.

Love how people get so enraged by Coleman talking sense.

Who gives a crap if it is obvious, has what he has said false? We do expect better, I would live him to be saying that we are great but we are not, he does not seem the type of person to be slagging off the team in public and would that be the right thing to be doing?

Not one single person on here knows what he is like in the dressing room or on the training pitch during the week, if he is deemed to still have enough legs to be a back up (hopefully) then I am all for it. Same I was with Baines or any other player that has given his all for the club over a decade, some may say sentimentality does not belong in football and in some cases they may be right but in this case he still has enough for a backup role.
