I know but our friend here suggests that we shouldn't let our South American players play for their countries during the international break, including a fully fit Richarlison
I'm not suggesting that at all. I don't think we can stop them, for one. Only the elite clubs can pull this off - see Alex Ferguson in his time - but we're not operating at that level, sadly. This needs to be borne in mind when people start predicting top four challenges for us after a few good results. We are not operating at the same level as the clubs who regularly make up the top four. Our draw is much less than United's under Ferguson was. We could lose our two best players for another stint due to these games - and neither has been fully available for us for the best part of a month already! It is what it is, but I can't believe we've been passive by-standers here. Surely we have made our frustrations clear privately while giving our "blessing", for what it's worth. I certainly hope so. Ancelotti is a master at turning a potentially negative situation into a positive for his relationships with players.

No, I would tell him that he can play for Brazil but that he will have to accept that his indiscipline in the derby means that plenty of people feel let down and frustrated that he is potentially further jeopardising his availability for the club. I would tell him that international football is important, is a great experience, and that I would support him playing in World Cup qualifiers, but he needs to learn from what's happened and ensure there is no repeat. But I would be clear: jetting off now, for all the right reasons, is not a good look when he's been unavailable due to his own actions. Go for it, but take any criticism as motivation to properly manage his emotions in stressful situations. Champions League clubs expect their players to be available as much as possible...

Basically, I am not against Richarlison playing for Brazil. But the frustration some feel is definitely on him. I think this needs to be made clear to him - and I am assuming it has been. It's possible to feel irritated by this state of affairs and at Richarlison's inability to hold his temper in a big game - a poor message to so-called "elite" clubs - while simultaneously supporting his wish to play World Cup games for his country - another iffy signal to the glamour boys. But he's a big boy, and he'll need to assume some responsibility if things go further awry in South America.

Yeah, John Delaney was poison, but when people like me politely pointed out as much many moons ago, we were dismissed - in much the same way people were dismissed when pointing out Bertie Aherne's carry-on. These were not popular critiques. Irish people made their choices - including drinking booze from Delaney's shoes - so utterly deserve the wretched state of affairs we now see. I have no criticism of Kenny - he may well be out of his depth and he doesn't have a profile to speak of beyond the League of Ireland - but the reality is that the manager, whoever he is, is effectively hamstrung by the absolute dearth of talent to pick from. Of course, that's also been the case for many years but the likes of Dunphy insisted Trap had the players, when it was patently obvious he had next to nothing. Style of play is an affectation when the players can't do the basics. And they can't. That's on the FAI who have outsourced player development and, as you say, abandoned the field to the GAA and rugby where our few professional administrators seem to find a home.
I also banged on about Delaney for years but no one listened to me until it was way too late.

I think Richarlison came back from his last spell with Brazil in the summer and started the season for us a bit rusty, scored one goal, a penalty, in his games with us before getting stupidly sent off and missing the next three. Now he is off to play for Brazil again, the truth is that Richie is desperate to play for Brazil, he wouldn’t allow Everton to stop him from going, Brazil is more important to him than any club he plays for now or any club he goes to in the future, that is his nature, he has no affinity to Everton or any club, playing for Brazil is the most important thing in his life.

Not even the World Cup?
I'd watch any football in the summer because there's nothing else on. If internationals were kept to summer its a win, win - club football not disturbed and we don't have to watch cricket or tennis. I remember international schoolboys used to be on every summer between seasons when I was growing up it was class.

Champions league clubs can deal with a 3-game suspension. It's not Richarlison's fault we've looked absolutely terrible in the last 3 games and I reckon his suspension is punishment enough, as the timing of the international break and his return from suspension his essentially coincidental anyway.

I have some serious concerns about your motivation and most intemperate (to put it mildly) language about our Club Captain.

Congratulations, you are the first person I will ever have put on Ignore.

I think you are reading the wrong posts.....that other fella is calling Seamus all sorts.

I love Coleman.

I'm sure he would - but it's nothing we don't already know. We'll sell him for big money when the time comes, in all likelihood.

We can either be supplicants to players and their agents while they are with us, or we can set some standards and expect them to meet them. That's actually quite attractive to top professionals. I'm pretty sure Carlo has had a word in his ear. And I suspect the lad is bright enough to listen.
