If he loved the club as much as he claims to, he would instinctively give up his position to Patterson. He's done. And that kills me. Unfortunately, his experience counts for a lot and it will seem too much of a gamble to throw Patterson into the deep end for the next few games. We can't even tell if he's ready.

Problem exacerbated as we only have one defender and he’s injured.

So Dave you don't believe quality players can deteriorate over time? Will means nothing if his body isn't able to contend with the intense rigors of the premier league. Give him a place on the coaching staff for the academy like Baines if he still has an affinity for the club. But with the errors he commits on a frequent basis he is a complete defensive liability. Also other limitations that were even present when he was a solid player like his lackluster crossing become even more glaring when we don't have a natural left back who can provide proficient crosses and a constant offensive threat

Our entire defence is rubbish. You just have to pick the best of a bad bunch

Kenny, Mykolenko, Branthwaite should all be playing now. Even if it's a massive gamble. Keane and Coleman have been at fault for 90% of errors at the back since we first kicked a ball this season.

If the RB is Kenny or Patterson, that first goal doesn't happen because they wouldn't have been so easily beaten to the ball despite having a 4 yard head start.

Yeah his attitude might be great and he does love the club, and yes he has been a loyal servant to us. But at what point do you notice he is being rinsed week in week out, the only 'good' games he has had have been against poor opposition and even in those games he's still made mistakes, just happened to make a few tackles.

Yeah he scored v Leeds, so fkin what?

His legs have gone, the same way Gary Neville's did.

One of my favourite players of the last dozen or so years, but has not been the same since he got his leg snapped in two playing for Ireland five years ago! That should have been the point we signed a new RB by the way, and I don’t mean JJK who in a couple of years time will be playing in the championship or even league 1 and hopefully not with Everton!
Last night was the culmination of Everton’s failure to replace him, and everything else just catching up with him! Directly responsible for three of the goals, poor passing, slow, out of position!
Sorry Seamus but that wasn’t anything like good enough, and unfortunately hasn’t been for a while!

Yes, this. Some of the comments in here are hideous and disrespectful to the guy. It's the fullback curse, it's a position that needs physical sharpness and speed of thought and deed. Loads just go off a cliff or they move position, sometimes to centre half where there's less running. Not sure he's got the positional nous for that though.
