2023/24 Seamus Coleman

With Young proving poor and Patterson being outrageously bad we are in desperate need of Seamus' return for more than his leadership qualities too - as important as they.
Upgrades on both fullbacks desperately needed. Patterson not trusted by management evidently but he has another opportunity now to stake a claim.

Confident a fit Coleman usurps him though.

Seamus is RB for however long his fitness holds for the rest of the season...and if we get a transfer embargo we'll be seeing him retained for another season.

Incredible position we're in and its down to the idiots spending precious cash on unproven players for vital positions.

If Patterson remains fit then Coleman can be the cheerleader on the bench and motivator in the dressing room...before moving into a coaching role end of the season.

….I expect Dyche will be very keen to have him back in the team. I wouldn’t be surprised if he follows Doucoure and extends his contract as long as he remains fit.

I think Seamus still has a lot to offer, Seamus can possibly handle Garner as a Wide Midfielder. Also for the immediate consideration of West Ham, Benhrama/Fornals and Coufal are decent enough threats only for Patterson.

Perhaps you could give a couple of examples of 35 year old right backs who have come back from long term injury and shown a lot to offer in the league?

Ohhh, that is a very specific requirement for the EPL, but it pays to remember that Zanetti was irreplaceable for Inter, and Valencia played well into his 30s very well for United in our league. From what I can see, maybe not in terms of stats Coleman is more impressive than people give him credit for. Additionally, he was asked to play RCB for some time where he seemed extremely uncomfortable.

Foreign leagues are generally slower and there are many examples of players having great success even at 35+.

Coleman had morphed from an attack minded player to one who has improved defensively -- if we went with a back 3 i think he'd be ok as the RCB.

A full back now needs to have pace in this league or be very good defensively like Mykolenko.

Weve seen with Young all season how any weakness brings the whole team down

Young is not Coleman or even fully transformed RB Antonio Valencia, he is just a jack of all trades, and comparing them is criminal. Attack from a fullback is a team move, not just an individual marauding up and down the flanks. Seamus himself did a lot of attacking last season but the others were just not tuned into certain basic plays, compare the buildup to that Leeds wondergoal last season my friend. Bielsa turned Ayling into a PL RB, which should speak volumes. Personally, I like players like Myko(+Passing) who move inward when necessary and pass the ball around while giving defensive cover.
