Playing for a manager with no defensive strategy, plan or clue can't help

This. The lad made a mess of that yesterday but to be fair how many of our players did they get past before the ball got near him and Martial. Have to defend from the front, players will make mistakes, but if the ball isn't getting into the area there is less chance that mistakes will result in conceding a goal.

True - as usual - teams get to the edge of our box with such ease. Get crosses in with little in the way.

Coleman matured and went up a level in Martinez's first season, and it really looked like we had a gem on our hands. He's regressed massively since, especially in his attacking abilities and quite frankly his positioning and awareness this season have been pathetic. I think he's been one of our worst players, which is a massive shame because he's one of the few we have who would run through a brick wall for you.

The way we play has changed massively though. Martinez's first season was a cross over of ideas of Moyes and Martinez. It was the right balance of attack and defending. Now we've fully moved to Martinez's system practically all of the defence look crap so it's hard to just blame Seamus

I totally agree, our style has completely changed since our first season with Marrinez, which certainly brought the best out of both attacking fullbacks. I think they were the main reason we were successful, but now Coleman doesn't seem to be able to play his natural game. Infact I'm not sure myself what role he's meant to be playing but he's all over the place. If you watch the West Ham winner the other week, he's on the half way line 30 yards away from the rest of his back four?!

Not a pure defender, nor an attacking defender (can't cross/useless in attacking third). So what is he exactly? frightening to think what he'll be like in a couple years when hes athleticism diminishes...

I thought he had a decent game defensively other than that mistake. Poor mistake no doubt but we should have still been able to get something out of that game as they were utterly dross.

He was in with a shout of best player for us in the first half, shocking defending for the goal though.

He's not been the same player under Martinez these last 2 seasons.

I actually thought we were quite good defensively yesterday. Apart from Seamus' error, I can't think of any clear cut chance they've had where Robles had bailed us out. Maybe that's just bad memory from me though.

The lack of control in midfield for parts of the game meant the defence had more and more waves coming at them though.

Amongst all the doom and gloom I think Coleman has been much better the last couple of games. If only he could cross a bit better...
