Seamus Coleman

Not the player he once was. Love his hard work and passion, loves the club too. Just hasn't performed like that 13/14 season since then, still a good RB but defensively hasn't looked good.

None of them have though mate and that's the worrying thing.

Coleman like you said has looked bang average for large portions of the last two seasons but I can't personally just single him out because from goalkeeper to fullback to whatever cb pairing we have,we have looked bloody awful for about 85% of the time.

Agree with you there, none of the back 4 or goalkeeper have looked great. Can only name a handful of players out the whole squad who i feel have had a reasonably good season. With coleman going to the euro's I hope that helps him.

Captain in tonight's match.

If every Everton player on the pitch had seamie colemans attitude yesterday we would have seen an excellent Everton performance, rather than that utter tripe we witnessed yesterday. Coleman showed no fear, kept bombing forward, kept trying to force the issue, but with no one else on the everton team at his wavelength (apart from Jags who thought had a very respectable performance) it was unfortunately a waste of energy for the lad. I remember thinking Seamies family must've been at the match or something cos he was definitely putting in that extra 20% compared with the others. I'm almost cultist in my belief that psychology is 90% of athletic performance and I'm happy to say at least seamie still cares. The others were not half as arsed as him which is worrying in a big game at home against the likes of Arsenal.

Great attitude...as you wrote great bombing forward.

However positionally hes weak defensively...cant play with deulofeu. If only he could wise up defensively.

Wasn't bad on Friday, but Cyrus Christie (him of Derby County) did better against Slovakia on Tuesday than Coleman did against Switzerland.

Yet he managed to do it perfectly in the first season, and managed to bang in a few goals.

Interesting that

has been said by quite a few of us now and even the media, 2nd season teams just pressed him and Baines.

Been poor since then.

For that one season we had the best full backs in the league (and a pretty good CB pairing too).

Unfortunately Baines and Coleman's reputations in the media have lasted longer than their form. Granted, they've both had injuries but Baines is probably too old to be the same player he was, and while Coleman still shows flashes of brilliance he's not as good going forward or defensively. Still a decent player and not one that would make me groan when I see it on the teamsheet, but let's just say the top sides aren't going to come calling for him.

When he first got into the side he was a defensively short, exciting attacking full back who focused on direct play, getting to the byline for pullbacks and arriving late in the box to pop up with goals.
THis season in particular he seems to have gotten better defensively but regressed offensively, too often he keeps hold of the ball for too long and 9/10 he comes inside on his weaker foot before getting crowded out and losing possession.
Personally i'd prefer if he went back to basics attacking wise, do that and he'll hit his best from again as he's much better defensiely now.
