Seamus Coleman

He'd have been one of those big mouth kids you'd just want to race against at school and try to trip over 'accidentally' along the way. Glad he's on our side!

Just me? Oh yer ok then.

Part of Coleman's game, and Baines, is to attack down the wing. When he is doing this he is pulling his attacker back with him. Coleman's dictating the role of the attacker. He doesn't have to be a brilliant defender if he winger is marking him. He has an engine on him and can run a winger ragged.
Make him sit back and defend for ninety minutes and you are giving the winger an advantage.

Seamus @Caolam

The testimonial pre-season was a hint of how he would function in this setup - and it looked very promising.

No need to build around him as I genuinely believe it is already tailor-made - surrounded by pace and a striker in front of him who plays on the shoulder of the defender. Not to mention two water-carriers behind.

Won't happen sadly but it would be the signing to take us and the current system up a level.
I can see it happening if there's a will from Everton and Rooney to compromise on wages.

If it doesn't happen this summer, I think the beauty of bringing WR back in diminishes from that point on.

D'you think Coleman links well with Deulofeu? I wish it were so, because it looks increasingly the case that Coleman only functions with Lennon's workrate around him. He;d have been up against it yesterday with Kenedy if Lennon hadn't have stepped in and pressed the lad back.

Not really but Deulofeu isn't the kind of winger who needs support up top. And McCarthy can come across to help out Coleman at the back.

We shouldn't be looking to shoehorn anybody into the side.

Lennon is playing well atm and Del doesn't need to be forced back in. Clevs also had a stormer the other day as well. Del will get his chance, there's no rush

Cleverly defo had a boss game the other night but I feel our best side would be one with Del and Lennon.

Great to have options, though.
