Seamus Coleman

Tbh the form he's shown over the past 2 season he should be concentrating on his place first before we consider him captain

He hasn't been that bad.

Not lived up to his usual standards, no, but he's struggled with injuries and I think it's pretty clear his impact going forward was nullified once Martinez managed to get his system in place.

It's a clean slate now.

For what it's worth, Seamus is probably the only player to have improved defensively over the past two seasons.

He'll be back to his best this term, got no doubt about that

Thought he's been pretty shocking, non existent going forward and constantly getting caught out defensively. Tbf have thought for years he needs genuine competition to push him and Roberto didn't help, but he is one that has to prove himself again during the early parts of the season

Fair enough. I'm sure he will

Does seem to have lost confidence to beat his man and put a cross in. Used to have a great ball on him (still remember his league debut v Spurs when he tore Bale one). Now he seems to hesitate every single time, come inside on his left and look to float a ball to the bank post. It's just not working for him at the moment. Need to see him without the Martinez effect though.

Im giving seamus the benefit of the doubt. He has had a new born at home hasnt he ? I remember when my daughter came into the world......mine ended for 2 years, Barely slept a wink and my work suffered as a result. Im gunna bet he's raring to go this next season

We regressed in such a manner over the past two seasons that players who had previously looked great really started to slip when it came to form

Coleman was one of those players

I expect players like Coleman, Baines, Jags, McCarthy and Mirallas to start getting back to where they were a couple of seasons ago once they start building up some self belief

I wouldn't count Coleman out just yet

Good point about his defensive improvements.

I'm tempted to attribute that to the Ireland team. His role has grown over the last few years and though he doesn't manage to get forward much, he has taken on the added responsibility very well and shown some great defensive performances.

regardless wether he has declined last season ,60k still one of the best signings i can remember.

I think koeman will get him back upto his usual class attacking standards and i would definitely look at him as captain that scream at McCarthy in the euros ( i think ) got hairs standing up
