2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

He did say it and the principle is not true.
Let's not pretend you've seen a lot of him Mike. It is possible that he's better off playing wide for us is what I meant, I have no idea either way i've never seen him play number 10 so i'm not going to go all Bilyaletdinov and claim he'd be amazing there when I have no idea. I'd like to see it tried but I'm not going to pretend i've followed the lad's career carefully and can tell you what he's best suited to as a PL player. I'm also not suggesting he didn't say it, I just don't necessarily take out of context quotes by toffee blues twitter as gospel, forgive me.

For Sheffield United in the championship mate. Plenty of teams have been promoted with systems they played there and it doesn't translate above.
Look at the precise quote from Dyche that's being discussed:

“There is no evidence to suggest he should be playing as a number 10”

It's nonsensical, and what you are saying doesn't map onto that as an explanation at all.

If we are to totally discount how well he played at 10 for Sheffield United, then we must also discount how well he played in any other position.

Therefore, there's no 'evidence' he should be playing on the wing, either. No 'evidence' he should be playing anywhere.

So excluding past performances in itself makes no sense.

I’ve seen him play number 10 enough times to know he’s better than Doucoure or Jack Harrison there.

Hang on… what’s Ndiaye’s squad number?

Here's the full quote, lids.

Dyche also responded to calls for Iliman Ndiaye to be moved into a central role by saying there is “no evidence” the Senegal international should be playing in the No 10 position.

The £15 million summer signing has impressed since joining from Marseille but has played the bulk of his minutes on the left wing so far.

“He’s doing well off the left,” Dyche said. “People keep telling me I should be playing him there. People keep telling me of my role as a manager.

“I think he can adapt to Everton. The modern No 10 has to defend from there. Dwight does it very well on the offensive side but has found the defensive side more of a challenge.

“It’s not as easy as you think getting the right passing lanes to stop the opposition and then attacking on turnovers over 95 minutes. That can be developed over time but he’s doing a good job coming off the left — he can wriggle and drive into the box. He’s still adapting.”

The thing is, Sky's vinny O'connor goes in with his weak as piss question "your 8th in the form table the last 7 games, yet on the outside there's a lot of negative noise".

If he then said, "why is that?" and Dyche simply follows it up with "because we aren't winning enough game" it then completely changes his attitude to at least being honest. He literally rambled on as if it's absolute chaos at Everton as the Everton fans dare demand to see some positive results and performances.

Imagine my surprise to check in here and find that people are falling over themselves to somehow justify the absurd notion that "there's no evidence to suggest he should be playing as a number 10". Really? With almost half his matches played there, where he scored more goals per minute than any other? Where he plays for his national team?

What a disingenuous lie that is. Dyche could have said "I think he's better on the left" and while Id disagree with him you could make some argument. But to say "there's no evidence" as a reason why you cant play him in that position is exposed as a lie when you consider that HE HAD NO EVIDENCE HE COULD PLAY ON THE LEFT. Yet that's where Dyche has played him. 154 matches for club and country before Dyche got a hold of him and only 9 of those were on the left, yet that's where Dyche plays him. Without evidence to suggest he should be playing there.

Dyche did a fine job last season, and I suspect got miffed about the backing and criticism, and has since decided hes going to throw in the towel until they fire him because he didnt get a contract extension.

Thanks for confirming that he’s actually chatting even more rubbish than the isolated quote makes out.

more of a defence of McNeil (currently the N10) than Dyche. But given McNeil is joint 4th in the league for big chance creation, why would he move him? Especially given Ndiaye is also contributing by cutting inside from out wide?

Genuine question.

“There is no evidence to suggest he should be playing as a number 10.” Dyche on Ndiaye.

Aside from his career of course...
