The Burnley relegation also came about because they went with the mantra of not investing in players while selling off first team players. That tap was well and truly turned off once their new ownership came in though quite possibly a deliberate ploy to undermine a popular manager. Any team that does that repeatedly ends up going down.I think this is what people forget….they keep repeating what he did last season like it is an unbreakable pattern which is destined to be repeated this season, but as we know, that worked for him for a number of seasons at Burnley until it didn’t at which point they were relegated.
If they’ve stopped listening to him, then he is in big big trouble and so are we
Constantly replacing players with those of lesser quality undermines any tactics. It's just not a viable long term strategy and culminates in seasons like this. Regardless of manager no team stays up without spending and that spending being on players of sufficient quality - our strategy has been cap in hand what can you loan us or sort us out buy now pay later.
The Friedkins don't have the same issue of undermining a popular manager but regardless of what they do it's the lack of investment in good enough players that is the biggest problem. Without sorting that then relegation becomes harder to avoid for any manager.
