2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

It's sad isn't it. People just cant tip their hat and move on.

It's the reason we've had so many managers in the last few years too: a fanbase that's only ever happy if they have the thrill of ending a manager's tenure and then get to say they were right and that the next feller is miles better than the previous 'fraud' - until we hit a rocky patch with them and then they demand his sacking and declare all others who attempt to defend that new manager when they need defending as apostates and fit to burn.

Imagine being them.
If I was to go back through your post history Dave, are you sure you're without sin here? Fairly sure you were calling Koeman a fraud sooner than anyone else

Like I’ve said mate, il give him a small pat on the back for last season but he isn’t the only manager who could have done it.

We went from 2 seasons in which we survived final home match at Goodison.

We then didn't spend a bean, and had the chaos and circus that was giving us 10 point deductions, with constant uncertainty around more.

Look at the impact it's likely had at Man City.

Nobody would have given us a prayer when he come in if we were told we wouldn't spend that summer, and get a point deduction.

I believe everyone thinks he worked miracles because he was making the players look far worse than they are. Some fans think that they were playing at the ability and if they were then he would have done a good job. My view is him and his coaching staff was making them look like championship players at best, Moyes in a week has made them look like PL players and decent ones at that.

I don’t rate Moyes like I’ve stated in here but he is far better manager than Dyche. That says more about Dyche than Moyes.

I'd agree with you, if we weren't terrible for years before he arrived too. Example - Everton 87th out of 92 teams for points per game during the 2022 calendar year.

We were in relegation fights with Richarlison, Iwobi, Gordon - players better than what Dyche had. I shared my view on here under Lampard we'd be fighting relegation, and again under Dyche so it's hard then to say it's all on Dyche.

We'll be fighting relegation next season too, unless we recruit well.

If someone told me now, we'll have to make a profit in the summer, and get a point deduction next season I'd be saying Moyes won't be able to keep us up.

Thread doesn't bother me tbh. I never wanted him in the first place and suspected how it would end up but he deserves some respect for his first 2 seasons under precarious circumstances. This season he lost the plot and was terrible and in the end admitted to the new owners what most people already knew that he had taken us as far as he could which instigated his own sacking and with no further damage done and he was replaced very quickly.

Things look a lot more promising now as i think Moyes will keep us up and then we can look forward to the start of a full rebuild and new stadium from summer.

It was pretty much their reserves;

But the bold is a good point. They're bringing on £50m+ Richarlison etc.

I made it a few times this season. Our total squad cost in terms of transfer fees is 19th in the league. Only Ipswich is less, and I think Philogene took them above us. And that's taking fees we haven't spent (like Mangala/Broja/Harrison last transfer fees).

We were getting beat against Bournemouth and I'm thinking "these have 2 players who cost more than we spent on our match day squad".

We have to start genuinely investing in the team - we need 2 or 3 years of transfer fees like Bournemouth/Forest/West Ham have spent over the years.

Some of their reserves. But let’s be realistic. On paper, whose squad would you want going into that game? Theirs or ours?

We have a better GK and CBs.

People making out that they were full of academy players to suit a narrative.

Dragusin signed as a starting CB just a year ago. Davies was their starting CB 2 seasons ago and played half their games last season. Porro is a starting defender for them. Spence likely walks into our team (especially if you base that on how people on here view Myko).

Gray signed for like £30m and is incredibly highly rated. Already mentioned bergvall. Neither signed for their academy. They signed for the first team squad.

Sarr is a starting CM for them and walks into our team.

That front 3. Maddison, Kulusevski and Son. Don’t need to say anything else.

As I said, yes they have injuries, but it’s not a team full of academy players.

I'm glad the majority of Evertonians respect the job Dyche did.

As I often shared, I think Everton history will be very kind to Dyche.

He'll be remembered as the guy who come in here;

.... most had wrote us off. Our lowest ever points total 20 games in. 11 defeats in 14. The fixture list coming up. It's the only time I felt we were down. He kept up. He navigated us through the circus caused by Moshiri and incompetent, self preservation board. A board who sought to damage the club for their own benefit.

If someone would have said he'd come in, keep us up, every window we'd have to make a good transfer profit, and the following season he'd keep us up despite deductions - we'd have all snapped hands off.

Sure, wheels come off this season. It happens in football, pretty much every manager ends up sacked. Or disliked for engineering a move.

But he left with us a couple of weeks into new owners, and us sat 16th with a transfer window. Previous managers like Lampard and Silva left with us in the relegation zone. He left us in a better place than when he started - how many managers can we say that about? This summer is a genuine chance of a massive rebuild, and Dyche has been massive in ensuring that opportunity.

So yeah, I'm glad the majority respect the job he did. Provided he doesn't start making silly comments, which I doubt he will given we'll be the biggest job he ever has, then over time people will remember him keeping our heads above water when the club, and Premier League seemed hell bent on relegating us.
Where I agree is that the general circumstances when Dyche came in were harder than what Moyes faces now, no ownership, sold Gordon for huge money, yet no funds for replacements, a worse squad than now.

Luckily we can look to a brighter future for financial and hopefully soon sportive reasons, and now can even get 2-3 players in we urgently needed back then and also now.

The challenge Moyes will have is to find the way manage the upheaval with a renewed squad.
