2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

I’d probably say 9-12th. I’ve been saying since Carlo left that we have better quality than people make out but keep making awful manager choices (by only having a shortlist of 1/2 crap managers).

But in return to you, why do you think Dyche still needs to play this style when he hasn’t just inherited a bottom half team anymore but actually has a team that was clearly capable of top 10 just last season?

If a manager takes a team that is probably a middle bottom half squad and takes them to 12th, it doesn’t mean they were clearly capable of top 10. The runs of form not winning are averaged out by two runs of winning form that most other bottom half teams won’t do either. Over the course of a season it averaged out to 48 points.

There’s no way we have a better squad on paper than the top ten I just listed. No way. I’m sorry I can buy 12th even 11th but if people are arguing we have a better squad quality wise than Brighton or West Ham it’s just not true. Brighton massively underperformed last season and we probably core performed a bit and we ended up the same.

Personally think our starting XI is better than Leicester, Ipswich, Southampton, Wolves, Bournemouth and Forest, and is at least comparable to Fulham, West Ham, Brentford and Palace.

Do seasons just test the starting XI of teams or do they test the whole squad?

Also even by that logic we’re ahead of 6 teams and comparable with other bottom half teams.

That does not make a top ten squad.

Brighton underperformed? What, because they’ve had one season when they finished 6th in recent history. I’d argue they performed as expected and over performed the previous year.

People don’t half massively overrate some teams.

No personally I don’t think we’re a top 10 team, but we’re certainly not a bottom 5 one either. Which is basically where the manager has talked us into being.

We’ll have to disagree on this. I’m not sure if you offered Fulham fans the opportunity to swap their entire squad for ours that even a single one would take it. I do think there’d be quite a few Everton fans though who would.

We’ve got some better players in a few positions in the first team but they’ve got a lot more depth than us which tells over a season.
We cant disagree on your Iwobi comment. He starts every game for them

Palace, Forest surely on the same level I think. I see Fulham as slightly better on paper and better coached.

In comparison of the league the squad should be around last season.
So how do we ensure we are better than Palace, Fulham & Forest then if we are about the same level?

Has the manager talked us into being there? Or are we the lowest spending team in the PL over 5 years? You want a manager who can take one of the smallest squads in the league, have the lowest net spend in the league, and then start saying he is the one who is limiting us?

Why didn’t you make the net spend argument for Lampard?

That's what has done my head in the most. Kept us up last season (thanks for that), then had a full summer window and brought in his own type of players and before the season even started he had a goal of avoiding relegation. It was the end of him for me. No ambition whatsoever, basically turned Everton into his own capabilities and manipulated a lot of people into believing we couldn't survive without him. This team are not great but a decent and ambitious manager would have them nowhere near the relegation zone.

It will catch up with him soon anyway because there is no universe where Friedkin would have someone like him in charge of their club.
