Thankyou for proving my overarching point on here (apart from your last sentence)

Investment in squad quality is far far more important than football style or aesthetic in determining league position.

Your last sentence however, the league table is the ultimate dispassionate measurement of football quality. Football is about keeping the ball out at one end and putting it in the net at the other. The team that does this the best wins the league a the one the worst gets relegated with everyone ranked in position in between. So yes position in the table is determined by quality of football.

Everton were better last season at keeping the ball out at one end and scoring at the other over 38 games than Burnley were ergo played better quality football. Us having better players probably allowed us to do that the same way all the clubs finishing ahead of us had better players than us.

Just run the logic of your post even further, it’s basically saying that even with Kompany playing a football style good enough for Bayern, it didn’t make any difference to Burnley because of the squad quality. It was actually completely irrelevant. Maybe that should be kept in mind in here when people bleat on about football style when Everton managers are given bottom half squads and forced to sell their better players season after season.
Benitez was given a top half squad and his style was similar to this current style and was absolutely turgid as well.

We finished 12th last season. There’s every chance this is a top half squad if they had a manager who doesn’t lead them to spells of 15 games without winning etc.

And so begins another tough week of wiping his bogeys on Nathan Patterson’s head in training and cupcaking Woany and Stoney while the players do the harrrrd yarrrrrds on the grarrrrrse.

Nah I love this bit, we'll get beat against Ipswich and he'll go "not my fault, I've only had the lads back from international duty for 2 days so I'm not sure what type of tactics your expecting me to work on in that time".

This is a top half squad?

Please list the 10 teams with worse squads than us.

We’ve got rid of all the players that you said were the rotting core of the club, like Holgate, Gomes, Sigurdsson, Davies. Coleman hardly plays anymore, Keane doesn’t play when everyone is fit. So who’s the new rotting core who we can pin the entirety of the blame on to absolve every manager?

This squad should not be scrapping for 17th.

There was 8 worse squads last season despite the awful football tactics we were employing and the appalling runs we went on.

So my point stands. One win from that 15 game run and we would have been 10th.

So let’s stop pretending he has a rubbish squad and the players are only relegation standard.

Name the ten clubs worse than us if we’re a top half squad. I’ve not said anything about 17th.

Only had them back 2 days because Richard Ashcroft was on in Nottingham on Thursday and he couldn't miss that. Him & Woany love gigs, don't ya know.

Looking more and more like the final league place and performances from last seasons excellent achievement of avoiding relegation, were due to the availability and performances of one Jarred Branthwaite and didn’t really have much to do with the footballing messiah that is Sean Dyche, doesn’t it….

Hope JB is back this week for Dyches sake and ours.

£5 mill a year for that - I think we can do better for a head coach/manager.

Which ten are worse than us this season?
But your argument is historical. It’s about how he was given a bottom half squad so he has to play this style etc.

But last season, his style took us on a massive winless run. 1 win in that run and we finish top half.

So last season, we arguably could have had a top half squad with a better manager/style/tactics.

So coming into this season, we have what is essentially a top half squad. (We were literally 1 point off the top half).

So that argument about needing this style doesn’t fit anymore. As the quality for top half is quite clearly there.

Regardless of what’s going on this season and other squads. Because we don’t yet know the standard of the other squads, but it’s easy to suggest the 8 teams that were worse than us and chuck palace into that. We even tied with Brighton last season and they were media darlings who were doing amazing.
