2022/23 Sean Dyche

Sean is just continuing the long long Everton tradition of being the most gifting club to teams on a terrible run.

Team on a losing streak? Play Everton get the 3 points.
Your main striker hasn't scored for a million years? Play Everton he'll score.

These sorts of thing just continues on and on and on.

He will be baffled that a group of professional sportsmen can put in a certain amount of effort, literally see for themselves what that can do in beating the league leaders, but then all 11 of them to somehow NOT put the same amount of effort in a week later. Not quality, just drive and hunger.

It’s just weird. I will never understand how we have probably burned through dozens of players now that all have exactly this character trait, yet all have made millions playing this game. It’s like winning a 100m sprint by a few inches, then the next week just randomly seeing if you still win by walking backwards and then pushing someone after losing just to show you care.

They are so frustrating. Inconsistency of quality and form can affect anyone. Inconsistency of effort is stupid and unforgivable.

New manager bounce is over very quickly.
Iwobi , McNeil & Doucoure all reverting to type again.

Didn't take long did it.
I think they were leggy. Doucoure looked tired at about 35 minutes which is understandable given the amount of game time he's had and the amount of running he did at Arsenal.

The whole team looked leggy - which I presume is part of a short term grind to increase fitness. It'll hurt in the short term but pay off long term.

We are desperately short of attacking options and a passer on midfield. Garner can't come back to fitness quick enough and we need to be very careful with Calvert-Lewin.

Honestly, I think Dyche had hoped to keep it tight and get a goal from set pieces. Had Tarkowski scored just before their goal the game would've been very different.

Leeds is the important game now. We put that one to bed and focus on Leeds (I suspect Dyche was anyway).

3 points from Arsenal and Liverpool is more than I expected.

Shocking derby performance though.

That said, Leeds was always going to be a more important game.

Leeds game is massive.

Much easier game with the crowd right behind them at GP than an away game under the lights at the Pit.

Fans losing their 'eds over tonight is baffling - did anyone really expect anything but humiliation at analfield ?

He cant play the same way without Calvert-Lewin. He needs to find a different method because that tonight was woeful, no better than anything under Lampard

I agree Tim and I'm not knocking Dyche either.

Hopefully it shows people that our squad is absolutely crap and even someone as meticulous as Dyche is with tactics, is going to struggle to get us over the line.

That was a timid, weak, can't be arsed performance. The kind seen under Lampard only just a few weeks ago. Not one player csn walk off that pitch tonight and say they done a job. It was a pathetic, feeble 2nd half effort.

Everyone can see that we don't have the most technical team, but we have some players with great physical capacity. The biggest chance of success is to play the game we are trying to play, hopefully we will be better in the transition, both defensively and offensively. Then we have a good chance of surviving in PL.

I don't agree that the players didn't try today, but they faced players who were better in almost every position. Today there was a lot of energy in the LFC team, and then it is difficult to match that. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work, but today talent worked hard. However, we weren't far off. Who knows what would have happened if Tarkowski's header had become a goal, It would have been a completely different match, margins.

Then of course we make far too many simple mistakes, and that is the challenge for a manager. We saw today that LFC mostly created chances against us when we had the ball, otherwise we were in good control, so the question is how much should we risk? A bit of the challenge today was 1) We weren't able to move up players/the team close enough to Simms, so that we could fight for the second balls, 2) We don't have anyone in the team, except Gray, who can threaten behind the defensive line.

Having said that, I think Dyche has done a very good job in a relatively short time. We are well organised, and it could have been far uglier today. Meanwhile, the real test will come in the upcoming games.

I think he may well have to put holgate at right back and godfrey at left back especially away from home. I think dyche gave the same team that beat arsenal minus calvert lewin the chance tonight and they bottled it. Shows that a centre forward is vital and just shows how criminal it was to not bring a striker in.
