2022/23 Sean Dyche

He's not perfect and some of his choices are baffling at times, but he's given us a fighting chance of survival after the disaster that was Lampard's tenure and that shambolic January window, so I would say he has done well.
He has made mistakes, but that was always going to happen in this mess, even if we go down as you say it was Lampards tenure, Dyche will stay stay up or go down and he has too

@DualityNSNO - 85th min was it?

If we stay up this is going to be a big issue of mine next season
I thought so too but 87th apparently. lol

Honestly same - sincerely hope (but somewhat doubt) that he'll change his ways when/if we get these alleged better players, really. I'm aware, as much as any of us are, the options aren't fantastic, but waiting for the last 5 min to make a sub just so you don't "ruin the dynamic" or whatever is shocking. Sure, worked well last night, but it didn't work the previous 10 or so ffs

We literally defended our own box for like 40 minutes of the second half last night and couldn’t get it out. They hit the bar twice as well. Despite the score line, we desperately needed a change in there.

Starting lineup and tactics for the first half were spot on. But when Brighton made 4 changes at half time we didn’t react at all.

Meant more the 1st half, we obviously relied on Pickford making great saves and them just... not scoring I guess.

As you say - 0 reaction, which leads to no actual game management. Plan A with the plan A players and nothing else.

Or Maupay up top I guess lol

Maupay up top at 87 minutes is beyond pointless. At least Simms would offer some height and strength if defending set pieces.

It baffles me.

I think that was always going to happen. Im sure de zerbi ripped them a new one at half time. I dont think there were that many options to change it tactically. I feel he got it wrong at leicester in the last 15 minutes with Gray. And Gray might have been an outlet yesterday again with Brighton pushing up. But i think its pretty evident he doesnt trust/rate Gray.
Very hard to contain brighton at home for a full 90 minutes. Better teams than us havent this season.

I 100% agree. Brighton were always going to try and do that 2nd half. And I certainly wouldn’t have gone with Gray yesterday as while he may have been able to capitalise on their slow and high defence to run the ball out, I don’t think he manages the defensive side well.

For me, it wasnt necessarily about changes tactically, but rather straight swaps of personnel as we were swamped and onana offers much more presence in midfield for example.

Whereas maupay on for DCL who was winning us defensive headers etc doesn’t make sense. As he wasn’t going to win any headers in our own box, and he doesn’t have any pace to run it out. Simms would have been a better option for both those things.

Ultimately, we won by a big margin, and it’s all hypotheticals, but there just doesn’t seem to be much in game management which is a concern.

Yeah i wouldnt disagree. But i think that was always gona be batten down the hatches for 20 mins. They just upped the tempo. Plus threw in soli march. Who makes them tick a lot.

Not sure who on the bench would have made a difference. The players on the pitch were perfoming, working hard and didnt look tired. Brighton were always going to come at us and we absorbed it with some good defending, goalkeeping and a bit of luck that we have been sorely lacking in. No use changing players just for the sake of it and just because we are under pressure as expected post half time.

They were always gonna come out swinging second half. We also could have had 2/3 more goals in the first half.

With the way Brighton were pressing, it was clear we would get opportunities on the break. So if you're arguing perhaps one of Iwobi or McNeil could have come off for Gray, then See your point, but Iwobi and McNeil offer much better defensive cover.

Last night was very much a case of it's not broken so don't try and fix it.

Let's say we'd only went in at HT 1-0 up, Brighton would not have made 4 subs and wouldn't have been anywhere near as aggressive as they were.
