We had Gana, DCL, Mina and Doucoure all on yellows...what happens if any of them get another yellow?

They miss the next game...Dyche already left holgate on before when he had patterson on the bench.

Needs to be a little cuter with his subs imo

Somebody tried to give him credit for bringing Mina in for Keane and you effectively said it had only been done because the press and forums were giving him stick.

I think to a large extent you have to trust players not to get a second yellow, it's just common sense really. It's one thing when somebody's clearly walking a tightrope but none of them last night were. You can't take 4 players off for the last half an hour just on the off chance that one of them is going to get a second yellow card. Obviously if he'd done that and they'd come back into it people would have said what on earth was he thinking that was madness etc, because for some reason some people are completely incapable of just accepting that he isn't an incompetent idiot and don't want to give him even the tiniest modicum of credit for guiding the team to an absolutely massive win, preferring to focus on him making the 'wrong' substitution in the 87th minute. It's very, very, weird.

And looking at the players on the bench who could he trust to not completely crumble if they conceded a second? Keane? Holgate? Personally I'd rather stick with the players who are in the rhythm of the match if they aren't looking dead on their feet. Even Onana had managed to pick up a yellow as a sub so he was another swap that wasn't without risk. He's not the most disciplined in the tackle.

It was a gameplan where the benefits ultimately outweighed the risks. For all the talk of Brighton hitting the post and Pickford making a couple of very good saves (keepers are supposed to do that) it's not like we never troubled them.
 

I've been a harsh critic of Dyche but he played yesterday perfectly.
I'm still concerned with this inability to change systems. They made 4 changes at the half and but for an outstanding Pickford performance it would have been a lot closer.

So, on the plus side,
great counter attacking tactics.
Clear improvement in fitness levels
Clearly improving some players confidence.
Reaping the benefits of not rushing DCL back

on the negative side.
Doesn't seem to have a plan B
Doesn't make subs at the right times, or enough. And when they come, I still question them.
I doubt Dyche would ever make 4 tactical changes at half time.
Seems to be very stubborn.

Overall, great result and probably the best appointment for the job at hand
but I'd still prefer a clean slate for next season.

I may be wrong but wasn't Mina's for timewasting? And Gueye's for a cynical play breaking professional foul? Like you say they could be trusted to be sensible unless something cynical was truly needed again as neither yellows were clumsy because they were getting turned inside out or struggling.

Understandable concerns but for arguments sake...

Can you trust this squad to be fluent in a plan B with him coming into the scenario he did?
Who was he bringing on yesterday who wasn't introducing jitters into that back line or significantly improving them going forward?
Making 4 subs at halftime isn't something any manager would want to find themselves doing.
Stubborness is a very common trait among top-flight football managers.

Some people just dont like him. He could miraculously keep us in the PL thos season and then miraculously take us into the top half next season. Then some people would say Dyche is limited and taken us as far as he can etc etc etc.
