2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

Well that is the view most take whenever anything positive is discussed (indeed you just invalidated the set piece stats from last season) . So last season doesn’t count, but apparently his time at Watford and Burnley in the championship does?

I’m happy to just use this season for the purposes of the set piece discussion, because that is relevant to right now. When discussing Dyche’s level as a manager though it is better to use a bigger sample size.

How convenient.

Last season’s set pieces at Everton don’t count towards predicting this season’s performance in that aspect but Dyche managing Watford in the championship needs to be considered in the round. ha ha.

Only stat that matters is points per game at Everton.

This. And the end of that period will likely coincide with new owners taking over. Up to him.

12 points from 7 games isn’t it? I hope as much anyone else we can suddenly find top 6 form for 7 games but considering we’ve reached 65 points or over twice in our entire PL existence (including 42 game seasons) I wouldn’t be putting my mortgage on this current squad suddenly doing it as a minimum expectation. If someone says it in a dead loud voice though then maybe the team will suddenly do it. NO EXCUSES

We won 4 in a row once last season with a worse squad so why can’t it be done?

Oh sorry I forgot we need to talk ourselves into being the worst team in the league to make the manager look better.

I’ve not said it can’t be done.

You said there’s no excuses if it isn’t done.

I’m just pointing out the statistical absurdity of your comment. It probably won’t be done. That’s not me talking anything down, it’s the likely probability of every bottom half PL team.

No one on here likes where Everton are at the moment, but you seem to misconstrue people crediting the job Dyche has done with being happy where Everton are. The two are not the same thing, no matter how much you try and paint it so.

Expecting us to beat the likes of Ipswich and Southampton is not expecting the earth is it? Or Fulham and Brentford at home.

It’s not January 2023 anymore. We got 48 points last season and have strengthened the starting XI this summer, we are a mid table team. I know that puts pressure on the manager to deliver and he really doesn’t like that, but it’s just tough really. He is one of the better paid managers in the league and I keep getting told on here what an amazing miracle worker he is, so he should be able to deliver it.

I doubt this has ever been said but even it has you’re not being told this consistently so stop being so dramatic

yeah there’s a good chance we can beat these teams but football isn’t played on paper. We last to Luton twice at home last season but also beat Chelsea Newcastle Liverpool and the season before beat Arsenal and battered Brighton.

You’re basically saying that your minimum requirement of a team that would have finished 12th last season is to embark on a run of form over 7 games that only two Everton teams in PL history have been able to maintain for a whole season, and that’s your minimum requirement. It obviously could happen and I hope it does bit you’re just teeing up your own balls here to beat Dyche with later which is a cheap trick in anyone’s book.

Well I’m not expecting us to do it over a whole season am I so what are you going on about?

We’ve won 1 game in 6 and now you’re saying we need to win 4 out of 7 as as minimum. Like I said it’s a statistically absurd expectation. Football isn’t played on paper regardless of the opposition. City lose at home to Brentford, Palace beat Liverpool at Anfield, Bournemouth have won at Old Trafford. Just looking at a run of games and demanding we win the majority of them is ridiculous.

Maybe just wait and see what happens over the whole season rather than just picking arbitrary samples of games.

Are you saying you don’t expect Dyche to be able to put a short term run of form together with some highly favourable fixtures? Well then we’ve got some problems haven’t we.

No that’s not what I’m saying.

Everton have been an inconsistent side for a very long time under numerous different managers. We’re capable of 1 win in 6 and equally capable of winning four in a row. I remember quite a few writing off games v Chelsea and Newcastle last season and they started a 4 game winning run.

So whilst I hope we do get a lot of points in next few games I’m not going to say he’s got to win x number as a minimum. That would be ridiculous, which it is.

‘Well then we’ve got some problems haven’t we’ - where have you been for the last 30 years?

If we have a horrible run and he shows no signs of reversing it, then waiting to see what happens for the rest of the season is basically just the burning coffeehouse meme brought to life

I see no problem with saying “if he has less than x by x then we should be seriously worrying and looking to replace him” to be honest

If you wait too long then you run out of time for a replacement to clean up the mess

That’s been the criteria under Moshiri his entire time here. If Dyche loses a lot of games and the dressing room looks gone then he’ll be fired. If he wins 3 and draws 2 out the next 7 though he’s probably not being fired is he.

Unless Friedkin takes over in the interim and puts his new man in place regardless.
