Semi Final Build Up Thread

So I was thinking about the line up I would deploy on Saturday and thats not too difficult and most of youse have put forward fairly close versions so far. then i thought about how Moyes works his line up out and that led me to some differnet conclusions. Seams like he has 3 rules that drive his team selection:
1) They shalt not score - so pick players that nulify their goal threats. To that end Distin makes it in and so does Neville at Right back and Coleman at Right midfield. Johnny probably gets the nod to needle suarez, who must be in every Ref's black book by now.
2) Stand by your trusted servants - This would mean places for Osman and Felli, Cahill and Baines. Normally this would pull in Hibbo too but rule #1 trumps this rule.
3) Ride your lucky omens - (see selection of pre-season training location) This would mean a definite place for Gibbo.
4) Do at least one thing which confounds the opposition's planning, assuming they have at least one person on the staff who approaches the game like you do. this element of suprise would suggest a place in the starting line up for either useless Vic or RR on the right wing.

So having done all that here is my 'likely line up for Saturday....

Howard
Neville, Distin, Johnny, Baines
Coleman, Felli, Gibbo, Anichebe
Cahill
Jelavic
Subs:
hibbo, Osman, The count, Jan, RR Drenthe

You really think Vic and Coleman will start mate?

i think you just contradicted your rule book dude, rule #2 play osman yet he's on the bench!

going on the assumption that Osman will take one of the wide berths, when have we ever had so many options for the one position, all of whom have a reasonable shout of starting?

drenthe
gueye
coleman
Vic
McFadden (well most of whom have a reasonable shout of starting)

Coleman has done nothing to justify a starting place as a result of his injuries and his average performances when he's been on the pitch. Drenthe or Gueye should start along with Osman.

I still say Osman should start in Cahill's position and we should play with two actual widemen (out of Coleman, Gueye and Drenthe.)

i'd leave well enuogh alone with cahill and jelavic, cahill has finally found some form so i wouldn't start fluting around too much now with whats been a winning combination recently

I reckon we'll see Ossie and Gueye on the flanks. Drenthe will make an appearance and hopefully stir up some mayhem (in their box not ours). Moyes loves Coleman but he's not nothing to earn a position in the line-up.

Coleman gives more protection to Neville who will most definitely start as RB - ergo: Coleman to start.
