There are some dates we will never forget. Dates that changed how we understand ourselves and our world. Dates that changed how we live. Seven years have passed, but undoubtedly you remember where you were when you first heard about September 11th. That day is as fresh in my mind as 7 years ago when I stood and watched the Pentagon burn.

Our lives were changed forever that day. Please take a moment at 0846 EST this morning and join with millions of Americans for a moment of silence and/or prayer.

As you remember the tragedy and shock, remember also the bravery and self-sacrifice, the love that lays down its life for a friend -- even the friend whose name it never knew, and all affected by this tragedy.

It's the date JFK was murdered. And WW2 for us is sometime in 1939, when we declared war on Germany. You guys joined 2 years later.

But the 911 thing we share in imagination. RIP.

The first date is the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and as Neb said, the second date is the day JFK was assassinated.

Cheers neb. I thought the date was wrong on ww2 but as i said am no expert on history. Jfk is more american significance than international. As is the date given for the war. Anyway rip for today

Probably Lee Harvey Oswald. I don't go in for shadowy conspiracies. Leave that type of stuff to the X files until compelling evidence, from first-rates sources, shows me differently.

I think he was involved but I don't think he did it on his own, isn't it virtually an impossible shot for one man?

Well the government and the FBI claim he did it alone. Why lie about it unless there was something to hide? If there was something to hide, then why has it not been revealed beyond a shadow of a doubt? A respected journalist or similar would make their career on finally showing the truth. Also, for a conspiracy to work you must involve so many people that it appears unlikely that everyone would hold their silence forever, particularly many years after the event. I've yet to hear or read anything that comes from the type of source that I would consider beyond reproach, that offers more than speculation or fantasy thinking.

Former U.S. Marine snipers Craig Roberts and Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock, (who was the senior instructor for the U.S. Marine Corps Sniper Instructor School at Quantico, Virginia) both said it could not be done as described by the FBI investigators. “Let me tell you what we did at Quantico,” Hathcock said. “We reconstructed the whole thing: the angle, the range, the moving target, the time limit, the obstacles, everything. I don’t know how many times we tried it, but we couldn’t duplicate what the Warren Commission said Oswald did. Now if I can’t do it, how in the world could a guy who was a non-qual on the rifle range and later only qualified 'marksman' do it?”

Fair enough, mate. You would need to grab a few expert independent bodies that could undertake tests again to see whether it can be done. You test again, again and again. That is how we can conclusively prove the shot didn't come from Oswald. Otherwise, the best we have is one set of experts, those backed by the government and FBI, which is a pretty good source, and these guys from Virginia who, in comparison, might be experts, but don't have the resources and knowledge that a body like central government has at its disposal.

It could be a conspiracy, I'm just cautious about these things and wait for conclusive evidence rather than mere opinion and assertion.

National Geographic had two, 2 hour programs on 9/11 a few nights ago. I'm pretty sure they weren't new but we're showing them this week due to the anniversary date.

The first was about Al Qaeda and the planning that went into the attack. They interviewed several different people. Fairly non-partisan in their presentation which was good to see. It simply took the viewer from point A which was around the early 90's to point B which was the week of the attack.

The second program was about the attack itself. They interviewed a bunch of witnesses, intelligence personnel, 9/11 widows, a few survivors, etc....

A very, very moving program. Interviewed two of the widows whose husbands were on UAL 93. Spoke to them via cell phone before they attempted to take the plane back from the four terrorists. One wife said her husband told her to call the authorities. She said she was sitting there, in the middle of their kitchen, with her two children, with the most helpless feeling she'd ever known. She asked "who do you call about a hijacked aircraft?"
