Transfer Rumour Sergio Romero

It appears the management are happy (loosely) for now because they know realistically we can't replace him with anyone definitely better with the money we currently have.

That's the situation we're in.

If they thought Romero was definitely better, I'd imagine he'd be here already.
Donnarumma from Milan is in his last year of his contract I heard! We have Pickford until then

People are literally making up Romero mistakes and I truly don’t know why. He’s genuinely good and the opposite of Pickford. Let’s not overthink this one. If he comes in either Pickford steps up Romero is in.

I'm not making up his mistakes. He's made some poor ones like every GK has. He hasn't made any as high profile as Pickford, I'll give you that.

It doesn't appear - based off what Carlo has said today - that we're in for him. I wouldn't be surprised if that's not true, mind.

I think he'd be a good signing because yes, he's good enough to get in the team if Pickford doesn't improve.

But he's a short-term signing. Which is fine, kind of, if the role is to be as competition for/push Pickford.

If not, then we have to be looking at a long-term solution don't we, which is a younger GK. And that can't happen until next season unless we get some serious money.

Romero is a more reliable, steady-eddie keeper, he was never considered amongst the elite group of keepers and has spent too much time in reserve for his own good.

For me, and at the sort of fee being touted, he'll do fine over Pickford. Can argue over the level of upgrade he is, but an upgrade nonetheless, which isn't hard either due to Pickfords horrendous form.

Pickford is not necessarily finished here. I'd hope he would take being dropped, if it happens, on the chin, and try to regain lost faith in him.

Not really.

He followed it up by immediately saying we are after a CB.

Im really not sure why people are talking about keepers still when we’ve got three and have just handed one a long term contract.
Can’t see this happening unless we sell Lossl. Virginia just signed a 5 year deal and doesn’t seem to be going on loan so I assume he’s going to be on the bench most of the season

It’s not about bringing in a direct replacement.

It’s about bringing in a keeper who’s good enough to actually challenge for his shirt, by being good enough to give him genuine competition.

He’s not had that since he’s been here, and it shows.

He’s got 2 other keepers all over his back for his England shirt, and he’s not given Southgate a reason to drop him when he’s played for England yet.

There’s defo a correlation there imo, as he’s too comfortable at Everton at present, and that’s never a good thing, as at the top level the margins are fractional.

Fair enough, I have only seen him in a handful of full matches, so I might be biased based on those. Not every mistake qualifies as an error leading to a goal, that’s for sure.

I hope that Virginia is that long term option, we haven’t really gotten any impressions that he can’t be, seems highly rated and looked assured last week.

Carlo is going to defend and support Pickford in a TV interview. But at the same time he has to be concerned about the number of errors he's making.

I agree he needs a keeper to challenge him and take over if he keeps making mistakes, and Romero is the obvious short term answer if we can get him on loan or for a very nominal fee.

My only objection from the start is the relatively high fees and wages being quoted for somebody surplus to requirements and out of contract next season.
