Big campaign on in Ireland at the moment to get people vaccinated. Ads on the telly and radio as well as stuff in the paper.

I have not had the vaccination after having both .....
Both are nasty viruses

I had mine covered and stayed away from my son as much as possible. And even when in his company was always kept a good distance away from him. He still got chicken pox

True story. I was at the Pharmacy looking for toothpaste and I saw my buddy wearing a skirt. He was walking around very carefully. I went up to him and said what gives...he had shingles all over his john thomas. He said it was the worst pain he's ever experienced by a wide wide margin.

I scheduled my shingles vaccine the next day.

You aren't contagious to people who have had chicken pox, you potentially are to others and should especially avoid pregnant ladies.

I have researched none of this but that is what the doctor told me last week

Amateurs the lot of you….. I had shingles about 25 years ago … because I’m obviously dead hard and that, God decided to give me pleurisy at the same time .. ya know just to make it worth my while… I can’t really explain it except say I felt like Patrick swayze in Ghost …. I was dead but not quite . Still, the stretcher down the stairs on oxygen and the blue flashing lights to hospital was fun

Years ago it was very common to have 'chicken pox parties'. If one kid in the street got it parents tried to get their kids to contract it to avoid problems in adulthood, especially women.

I had it yonks ago and didn't know what it was for a good while.
Was pretty bad bur carried on working.
Stress is the main cause, having something that effects you so badly gives a opportunity to reassess whats going on in your life and how it affects you both emotionally and physically.
Made me chill right out it did.

Not shingles related but got a mate who's recently had whooping cough as an adult, proper floored him for weeks. The cough can last 3+ months apparently
