No not the kick in the goolies from the Premier League today.

Just got my auto renewal quote car insurance

Now I'm not going to go into what car or level of cover , but it's gone up from £528 to £855.
My circumstances have not changed , no claims for over 30+ years , no convictions.

My daughter said the other day her insurance has jumped up , tbh I never really paid attention.

Obviously I'm going to find an alternative cheaper quote , but this is absolutely ridiculous for someone that has been with this company for over 10 years .

Nothing much in life shocks me now , but this certainly has. So just wait for yours to drop its tough to take.

Yeah, the insurance industry appears to be having its own little hyper inflation party.

Apparently due to contemporary vehicles being more expensive to repair/replace.

Which is great if you've got an older car.

Same thing happened to me last renewal.

Normally I can find a lower quote, but I think I ended up paying more, that hasnt been the case for years.

There's a little ditty from them saying you will see your premium has gone up but look at the benefits you receive !!!

I drive what is considered an eco friendly car , have never made a claim in over 40 years of driving . I must be an insurance companies dream. Never even had a speeding or parking fine.

My first thoughts are what about all the nurses & doctors fighting for decent pay , this is one of the reasons why they are doing it.

I'd love to know what justification there is in just fleecing the public. Yep well and truly shocked.

Its the war in Ukraine mate, nothing to do with the current government at all........

mine went up 100% to just over £1k, mid 50s, professional job, drive a bit with work but not use for work, no claims, convictions for 35+ years.
Mine went up 63% on the auto last year. Think they got it down to 55 with a phone call. Cancelled but still paid over 40% increase I believe
Jeez, we living in some kind of experiment to see how much bull we take before we riot I think.

IIRC the under-25s have it way worse too.

Anyway, a lot of complex calculations go into this - there's inflation, the war, the fact that Brexit utterly pulled down the sector's pants down and repairs/materials/cost about twice as much as they used to a few years ago, to go with their labour costing more, stuff like that - in fact, that's pretty much what the ABI says as well in a very stupidly laid-out article on their website.

Not defending the insurers/business - just answering the question, as this is Dadsnet after all. I've worked in insurance for about 5 years, saw all the crap first hand, went out as soon as the first semi-decent opportunity came up.

Yep got all that when I rang them and have read the same. I’m 63, retired and put down an excessive 4k as yearly mileage. Still went to about £650

My missus always complaining about the cost of living esp weekly groceries.
I always tell her things never go down love.

I accept inflation on everything , but for insurance companies to do this is unacceptable.
They had a very easy ride ride through covid where no one was allowed to drive. The modern cars & technology ensures there's less theft plus the claim culture has almost disappeared in this country.
So to make these increases is totally unjust.

Everyone else is profiteering so it makes sense that insurance companies are as well. Thieving tory buggers.
