Should Ferguson have stayed as a coach or should he have looked to manage elsewhere?

Helll never get this job.

We dont hand it to people just because they've been a coach for a decade.

Indeed. Until he has experienced management full time, had full responsibility, had highs and lows and dealt with people over a season or two he is unqualified to do the job……

I think he needs to go and manage somewhere to prove his credentials. However. in this instance it was politically expedient for Lampard to keep him. He knows he is a club legend and firing him off would immediately have split the fan base. Keeping him only pisses off Davek.

I also think it would have been appalling to turn to him in a crisis, then sack him the next week. Not happening.

Duncan has accepted the role because he loves the club, but he could well look to cut his managerial teeth somewhere else when a suitable offer comes in.

It’s a bit of a pointless question really.

None of us ever know how good a coach is, all their work is behind the scenes and to an extent they can only work within the confines set by the manager so our opinion on their ability is based on very little evidence really.

I also hate the idea that everybody should always want to have the ‘best’ job they possibly can. It shows Dave up (again) for the faux socialist he is that he still has that very Tory opinion rather than believing that people should do what makes them happy.

If he’s happy being a coach here and his employers are happy that he does a good job then I don’t see the issue. If he’s crap at his job then the club should have got rid but I can’t blame him for not leaving because why the hell should he when he’s on to a good thing. If he really still feels he can be manager here then he should have taken the plunge elsewhere. We’ll never really know which of those applies though.

He is. He came in at a time when we were on our knees. He lifted us.

You can say whaf you like, but to most he is a legend.

I went to his comeback game after prison for the reserves. It was about minus 9 and my tea dregs froze solid in the second half. There were bagpipers and about 20,000 for the game. Something about him resonates. I like him.

You already know you don't have a shred of proof of that. You're going to offer some conjecture and pass that off as proof of his failings as a coach. The truth is though, you know as much as the rest of us about his ability as a coach. I.e. zero
I know he's been a coach in a period of failure and should face the music for that.
