I hate them, but to be clear, hating them isn't a criteria for being a good blue.

Players do the guard of honour as a sign of respect, they choose to do this, they aren't forced by anyone. I understand why those would be unhappy with it, but ultimately we would give anyone else in the league a guard of honour whether we liked them or not.

Comes down to the players at the end of the day. Unless the club tell them there is no chance, I'd imagine the players will do it.
How can you respect the RS ?

I can acknowledge that they have a very good football team but I don't need to fawn over them .

Since when?

Since I was old enough to understand the concept of what a derby is and what a rivalry means.

We're supposed to hate when they win and love it when they lose - they're supposed to do the same for us.

If we won the league and they gave us a guard of honour I'd think they were as equally spineless as I think we'd be for giving one to them.

It's not even specific to us and them, this applies to all of them - the old firm, el classico, boca & river etc.

BK stopped YNWA being played at Goodison for an occasion.....so I just can't see it happening .....

I respect them as the best team in the league this year. I have no problem with the players acknowledging that on their own time.

However, I expect our players to have more respect for our fans and not bend the knee to them, knowing the rivalry that exists.

No chance, they'll have it printed on a massive banner by the next day and it will never go away.

Also probably for fan security too, a lot of the fans on here aren't a good representation of the match goers, a lot won't take it well at all.

Footballers giving a toss about their current clubs fans is a fantasy unfortunately. As I said, if it doesn't happen it'll be because someone above them has said it's not a good idea.

Personally I don't care, I don't concern myself with what they do, I wont enjoy seeing them win it but won't lose any sleep either. I have had hte benefit of growing up around a bunch of glory supporting united 'fans' though. So I appreciate im perhaps a little more immune to it than those who were brought up around kopites.

Haha mate I quoted you by mistake, I meant to quote the other fella who reckons you must always give the champs a guard of honor.

For the record I 100% agree with you.

The players are the ones who would be giving them a guard of honour.

I think it would bring down alot of boos which wont look good from our side. Ideas like this are thought up by people asking for trouble. Let carli congratulate them prior to the match. That's it. Anything else will end up a shambles.
