Let’s be honest though it’s just convention init. I mean I’m all for not doing it but is there precedent for English rivals not honouring the champions?

The whole "guard of honour" thing is so goddam cringe and embarrassing. Its not even about the RS for me, I'd be totally against us providing one for any team. They're a bunch of pampered multi-millionaires playing football ffs, their wages and trophies are their rewards. Time to stop this juvenile nonsense, stop the silly theatrics and just play the bloody game of football!

It doesnt. And in my post you quoted i actually said that its likely to be neither.

My point was of the two options, the Guard of honour is obviously the lesser evil.

No it is not.

If they were to clinch it at Goodison that would be something largely out of our control.

We could all walk out of the ground at the end and not watch the sickening spectacle of them celebrating the fact on our turf.

The “guard of honour” thing, however, would be a deliberate act of folly which would drive a huge wedge between the people running the club ATM and the matchgoing fans, who would have no choice but to sit there and watch as the RS are treated as conquering heroes.

It's a no from me. If only to hear the Sky pundits describe how on a Monday night at Goodison, it was Everton who ruined footballs traditions.

Spot on mate.

I remember one time when tge club told the PL to do one when they wanted to present the PL trophy to Manchester United immediately afte4 the last game of the season.

The club told them they would have to wait until the annual “lap of appreciation“ was complete.
