Should we have let Sam see his contract out?

With hindsight, should we have let him see his contract out?

Something doesn't add up here...

If I remember correctly (and I probably don't) Big Sam was initially offered a six-month deal, which would have seen him here until the end of that season. He said "no" and held out for 18 months.
I think this was the second time the club approached Big Sam during that period, having pretty much exhausted their options, so they weren't in a good position to negotiate. Everton had been chasing Marco Silva and everyone, including Allardyce, knew that he'd be getting the gig the following season.

No, he was defo offered a shorter deal. I only said I suspected it was the case as it's impossible to know with 100% certainty if Moshiri always intended to pull the trigger early, though I suspect he did :hayee:

He did what he came to do, but he didn't seem to want to move things on in the way we played.

The signings made, Walcott and Tosun, were dreadful. Especially Tosun.

It's much the same as Dyche. Dyche has had much worse to deal with but that's been reflected in the time given to him.

Neither fit the fans perception of what the club is and should aspire to be. I was going to say "tradition" in that respect but it would be incorrect, our tradition is mediocrity and both men fit that exceedingly well.

Sam went because Moshiri knew the opinion on him, the only thing he was good at, and Dyche will go the same way, only there won't be room for difference there as his results will sink us otherwise.

Think the bigger question is why did we let him spend a hundred gagillion pounds on Tosun and Walcott.

Tosun was a shocking singing - looked like we'd finally tied up the Ravanelli deal when he was 42.

Walcott wasn't great like, but we've made far worse signings. Got 10 goals and 8 assists in 77 PL games. So yeah, he was technically a flop, but unlike some others, he actually did a few bits for us before we had to cut our losses.

Yeah he was ok'ish, just symptomatic of spending mega money (including wages) on average players with no sell on value. By no means limited to Allardyce's time.

The atmosphere at games in the latter part of the season became poisonous with constant chanting of 'koff Sam Allardyce', he was always down the road after that.

Whilst I was no big fan of him I cringed at hearing that at our games.

No one has beaten his 8th placed finish since he left so it could be argued he was treated a bit harshly. Had he let the hand brake off when he got us safe instead of churning out the same dull tactics he may well have got following season.
