How many sick days is it acceptable to take before your workplace start asking questions?

I’ve only took 2 this year but think I should be taking more. Before anyone Karen’s start moaning and tell me I wouldn’t last working down a coal mine… sniff it.

I always found you could get away with as many as you want, as long you didn’t take them over the Christmas period and when the kids where off school, as people got wound up, when you took them off over those periods.

Always wonder about this as I have constantly had work mates who take loads more sickies than me. A lass I worked with took about 2 weeks off cos she had a boil on her arse.

Do you have an employee handbook and is there anything in there? I know people who have been wise to the full maximum they can take every year whilst getting full pay and subsequently do so. Guess it also depends on your employer and how far they’d let you take things before organising some sort of review.

Having worked in both public and private sectors, there‘s a massive difference between the attitude to going sick too.

No one was arsed in the public sector, as it was virtually impossible to get rid of someone on sickness alone, where as in the private sector, it was used as a big stick that to threaten you with all the time.

Although I suspect covid may have changed things up in the private.

Worked with one girl I saw three times in two years. Claimed she had a debilitating chronic illness. Used to see her out running, in the pub dancing around, and on one occasion doing 'Go Ape!' on a hen do.

Couldn't get out of bed some days, apparently. Knew full well the employer risked a legal case if they tried to fire her.

Mad huh?
