Sick days

When I done my health and safety nebosh course am sure they said you should monitor sickness days as a company. If people taking too many then there could be a wider issue I.e people not wanting to work there but on the other hand if nobody is ever taking sick days they could be scared and you have people in the workplace who shouldn’t be in work but are as scared of not being paid or punished.

5 day work days are pish. When I was in the navy you never worked Friday afternoons unless you were duty. Hope some companies start employing some of these routines.

Knew a fella who was supposedly off with a pulled shoulder, for a few weeks. Was interviewed by the manager on his return and was shown a magazine, 'The Sea Angler', were he held aloft on the front page (From Dodgy Shoulder)the British conger eel record, taken when he was off. Told the boss that his doctor told him fishing would aid his recovery ?

Worked with one girl I saw three times in two years. Claimed she had a debilitating chronic illness. Used to see her out running, in the pub dancing around, and on one occasion doing 'Go Ape!' on a hen do.

Couldn't get out of bed some days, apparently. Knew full well the employer risked a legal case if they tried to fire her.

Mad huh?

My missus boss ( NHS ) usually has more time off with sick and carers leave every year, than actual days in work.

Most sick days coincide with the weekends / school holidays / Christmas etc.

This has been going on for years and due to the fact that all of the bosses above her, are just “ passing through “ on their way to their next promotion, non are willing to risk getting bogged down in a potential tribunal.

So she just gets left to do what she wants.

Oh and she also does private medical legal stuff in works time too.

At least a week a year (7 days).
But mix it up a bit.
Don't always take a Monday or Friday.
We get a free hit of 7 days off ,then if you're off in a rolling year ,lose the 1st days pay, then off again 2 days pay.
Depending on the shifts I can get a week, with no-one wiser.
I must admit the older I get I don't abuse the system, cos with age you do get genuinely ill.

I always make sure I have 6 or so a year. And if sick over the weekend, have Mon and Tuesday off regardless.

Obv I could WFH now if I have a cold, but that's what they would want, so I make sure I still call in sick for that
100% mate. I’ve worked from home when genuinely ill and if I was back in the office I wouldn’t of dared go in.
