Everyone thought the same of Gibson before he signed.
Colback is left footed which can help balance the side, good engine on him and decent passer. On a free i'd be more than happy getting him in as a squad player

I'm not sure, i think Gibson always had quality and always had two main things to his game, his passing and his shooting. A lot of people were concerned about his fitness, his quality for me was never doubted. He wouldn't have played champions league games etc if he had no quality.
Colback isn't of the same bread, he's more of a workhorse without having any real quality, he's ok on the ball and has an ok engine but.. that's really were the positives end. He'll have a career at a few clubs who are mid table, he's that sort of player.
Baines' left foot

He's young, British, can play more than one position, and is either going to be very cheap or free. These kind of cheap players could possibly make the difference, picking up useful players along the way for a fraction of the price of similar players could allow us to go all out for a marquee signing.
Can't believe we haven't signed anyone yet.
The majority of Sunderland supporters don't rate Colback in the middle of the park. They prefer him at left back.

...I posted the Colbeck rumour yesterday. If I recall the detail he's out of contract at the end of the season and hasn't signed a new deal. RM is a fan but a transfer is only likely in the summer and only if S'land go down.

Colback is rubbish. Absolutely rubbish.
Thankfully we have Oviedo whose a miles better left back for if Baines goes, while we'll likely have Barry in next season to compete with Gibson and McCarthy and Barkley for three central midfield slots.
