Silly Season January 2014

Martinez on sky sports radio before saying he has money but doesn't know if january is the right window to spend it in. Says it's more important to not unsettle things.

He said a week ago we'll come out the other side of the window a stronger squad...which followed an earlier statement that we needed Kone and Gibson's places filled.

If he's saying anything to the contrary now it's because of one of two things:
1) he's boxing clever in the window to get the best deal
2) he realises that he has to sell to buy and that the two earmarked to go wont go

It's all manager rhetoric. He's probably trying to position himself to get a good deal. If RM came out and said he had money to spend and wanted to sign a few players then prices will get bumped up.

Moyes was saying similar about not getting value in January but now his hand has been forced by another dire result. A couple of decent short term deals would be good, and maybe splash some cash on a striker if jelavic goes. Once we get jags, distin and deulofeu back then the squad starts to look quite strong again.

The thing is Dave, its in Evertons interest to get rid of those 2 players on the 1st Janaury, we really dont care where they go, we just want rid ASAP, where as for the 2 players, its in their best interests to hang around as long as possible and look for the b£££££st offer.

I know, it's completely logical from their perspective. That's why I'm banging on about the surplus from the summer doing its disappearing act. We should NOT be in a position now where we have to wait for one or both of those two freeloaders to shift themselves out of the club.

Just a few days into the window, i personally don't see how we can conclude whatever surplus there was has disappeared.

Well with regards Heitinga its not an issue, hes gone sometime in the next 6months, regardless, the problem is probably focused around Jelavic, if he stays hes clearly our back up striker, if he goes we then need a back up striker, we dont really need 2 back up strikers and hes still got a few years left on his contract, its about future planning Dave.

I wish I was still capable of hope where these people are concerned, I really do.

That money is straight to the <insert ridiculous cost name here>.

Experience tells you the only game in town for them is sell/get rid then buy.

They'd have killed this club stone dead if they hadn't hired two managers with the transfer Midas touch.

This thread has been dire this window, can someone at least make up a bang-on rumour they claim is from twitter and include some hash-tags or something to drum excitement. tar.

...or it could be that the players he wants aren't available.

If you think that money's being syphoned out the club then alert the authorities Dave.

....can't make anything up, but all reports suggest McGeady is a done deal. Just a matter of whether we can bring him in now. To be fair, there appears little movement anywhere at this stage which usually points to a crazy last few hours at the end of the month.

Heitinga is an issue in that he frees a wage for a short term loan if he frigs off now.

Jelavic - I disagree with you: he's not a back up striker, he's a bench warmer. If he stays or goes we need a back up striker regardless. Martinez does not fancy him one bit and Lukaku would need to be in an oxygen tent for him to hand Jelavic the shirt (we both know he isn't capable of sustaining a challenge for it). We could get someone in now if the money was made available and sell Jelavic in the summer to claw some of that back. That's the way it should proceed from here. That it all hangs on shoving players out the door (with some bull**** story about 'responding to their need to get playing time before the WC') to bring players in is an absolute scandal. If I was Martinez I'd already be hearing the alarm bells ringing about the shower of incompetent ****s running this club.
