He said a week ago we'll come out the other side of the window a stronger squad...which followed an earlier statement that we needed Kone and Gibson's places filled.

If he's saying anything to the contrary now it's because of one of two things:
1) he's boxing clever in the window to get the best deal
2) he realises that he has to sell to buy and that the two earmarked to go wont go

3) He thinks he can strengthen the side with a free (like McGeady) and a loan from Europe. He probably also thinks our "buy" targets will still be there in the summer at lower prices than in January, which are always inflated.
