Silly Season January 2014

Davek.
During the summer you were convinced that Bill Kenwright was going to appoint a manager from within the club...and proceeded to slate him for that, even though nobody had been appointed.

He didn't and we had the most exciting and productive transfer window I can remember.

We all know your opinon on BK. At least hold you ire until the window is closed as it is hard to take anything you say seriously when it is so obious that your opinon is biased.

By his own admission he was very close to going with Weir. If Martinez had fallen through the consequences would have been dire. I thought it worth flagging that up at the time.

The majority of transfers happen at the end of the window, most of those on the last day and most of those in the last hours of the last day.

Clubs will not sell their best players to Everton because of RMs Spanish charms, we all know that one transfer can trigger a chain reaction and sometimes the player you want is available, sometimes he can't be bought...just ask David Moyes.

I would say that we have already been linked with probably about twenty players this window and there is a very good chance that if we sign somebody it will not be from that list.

I'm not suggesting no deals will be done. I've said that any deal will be contingent on outgoings to create space on wages. If they shift either or both of the two we know Martinez wants out then I'm sure business will be done. What I'm pointing to is the need to be waiting to do that given we have a 10M surplus generated in the summer.

Why not give the club a chance to do it's business before condemning the chairman and board.

Because they, and Kenwright in particular, have a lot of form in letting managers down on transfer budgets. They've used up good will a long, long time ago.

Last year we didn't buy anyone in January (aside from Stones) and it ruined the season.

These were our Jan + Feb league fixtures:

Swansea City (H)
Southampton (A)
West Bromwich Albion (H)
Aston Villa (H)
Manchester United (A)
Norwich City (A)

We took 6 points from those games, before this we were above Arsenal, 2 points off 4th and 3 off 3rd. Afterward we were 7 points off 4th. If we had added just a couple of first XI players and managed 10-12 points from this easy run of games we would have been a good shout for 4th, but Moyes/the Board failed to strengthen and well you know the rest.

I think the squad is strong enough not to sign anyone this year and still challenge for 3rd/4th but ffs they owe us something for that utter fiasco of a January last year.

If Davek didn't post about the board, he wouldn't post as often. And that would be a loss for us all.

At least he isn't going on about redcoats.

On topic, Jelavic needs moved on before we sign a new striker of first team quality. We can't afford to float wages on a squad member who isn't contributing.

Midfielders are a little bit different as we need a bit of depth. So get crackin' on those Youtube skillz videos.

And rumours have Nainggolan to Roma, so lets get some Michael Bradley to EFC debate going.

I'm with DaveK, this current board has had enough time and opportunities.

People need to remember, if Kenwright had his way last year. Martinez would not be here, but we would have the Ginger chap on a new massive 4 year contract with a lovely pay rise.

Oh aye.

Get Landycakes back and we'd have a core of USA USA USA... Earl would be working his magic in the US getting them on every billboard in full Everton kit.

The comments about not wanting to upset the harmony within the squad sound like RM is getting the excuses in now for not signing anyone.

Don't agree; RS, Spurs & MU will all strengthen their squads with big money signings imo, and we really must try to strengthen as well. It's one thing to have enough players to get through the league campaign, its another to have the quality required to keep pushing and give the manager lots of different options each match. I would LOVE to have the Baines/Oviedo "problem" for every starting slot.

I think its good to have the widely different views on the board from Davek to SteveWigan as its always good to have both sides of the story. If the board are as shifty and self-serving as Davek and others think then it is better that we have some part of the support base willing to question everything they are up to and scrutinise their actions and the accounts.

So even if it gets a bit boring to read another BK bashing comment on almost every thread, he serves a purpose and its a good one.

I myself am somewhat in between on it all but gladly read the points from both sides to educate myself further on it.

Negative net spend is the key here at the moment, as in how many more transfer windows will go by with us selling before buying.

On topic, I just watched the Barca B game from the weekend and Adama Traore was excellent. Very very quick and direct. If we didn't Deulo back next season, I'd love to see him on board. In general I'm just really hoping that we will start to build a relationship with Barca.

The good thing about other teams strengthening is that they seem to struggle more to integrate. Theres more turbulence and change at other clubs. So they can go spend a few more tens of millions like last summer, as I would be sure we will sensibly add to the squad and integrate players who will have immediate effect on a well-oiled first team unit. Whether that will by loans and free transfers or actual spend. I trust Bobby to get more from what he gets in than one of our competitors do when they splash the cash.

Landycakes is the glory and history of USMNTEFC, but Bradley is the future of American Football at USMNTEFC.

Preseason vs. the RS. Goal at 1:50. Could he be the Nutella to Barry and McCarthy's peanut butter and jam?

I don't like the kid, but he's got a point.

Spot on. The lack of competence last spring was massive. We should strengthen the squad now in January, not buy prospects (Dundee talents) only IMO.

Judging the last statements and interviews, I'm not too hopeful. Feels like RM is quite satisfied with Jelavic considering staying, and Alacaraz & Stones proven as valid centrehalves.

We need quality this window, I would love Yann M'Vila or Bibras Natkho here. Batshuayi is a wet dream, but likely? I don't know.
